colleges - Tennessee Technology Center atHohenwald and Eastern Shore CommunityCollege. Both now host CertTEC pilot programs. Two of our colleges are changing names andfocus. Brevard Community College is addingfour-year degree programs and becomes EasternFlorida State College on July 1st. TennesseeTechnology Centers become Tennessee Collegesof Applied Technology starting July 8th.We have also added a new partner in commercialspace - Mid Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS)in Virginia. Contrary to rumor, the spacebusiness continues to grow in size and activities. You can read more about that in the articles inthis and future editions.

As you can see, we've been very busy and prettysuccessful as a host of changes take place. This is onlythe beginning folks, and we are certain that many newinitiatives will unfold over the next few months. Pleasecheck our websites at www.spacetec.org andwww.certtec.com. Enjoy!

Progra m Activities of Note

I nter ns at SpaceTEC HQ SpaceTEC® HQ has been the fortunate recipient ofinterns from the Eastern Florida State College(formerly BCC) Aerospace Technology program whoparticipated in a program designed to apply knowledgeand skill acquired in the classroom to a real-worldproduction environment. Upon recommendation ofthe instructor, SpaceTEC® Co-PI Bill Fletcher, twostudents from the 4th semester Structural Fabrication 2course spent six weeks utilizing skills acquired invacuum bagging basics, composites machining, drilling, and repair to create test specimens forComposites Examiner Test Kits. In addition toclassroom skills in composites fabrication, uponcompletion of the semester interns were evaluated bySPI staff for core skills such as promptness, timekeeping procedures, and shop etiquette.

SpaceTEC partners Inc. (SPI) took a significant stepforward developing infrastructure to support aprojected increase in Basic Electricity and Electronics(BEE) testing activity in the second half of this year. To learn about possible future Certificationopportunities, click here.An additional improvement underway is developmentof test modules to certify the test cards prior to releasefor certification at the partner sites. Upon completionof the process, over 1300 cards with multiple test pointswill have been tested for proper operation followingdelivery from Nida. One testing module is beingdeveloped for each type of card in the set (DC, AC,Analog, and Digital). The development effort is thebrainchild of SpaceTEC BEE consultant Mr. Robert(Jerome) Folmar, EFSC Melbourne campus BasicMath instructor (and retired electrical/electronic designengineer). Composite KitsSPI recently assembled and shipped two CompositesExaminer testing kits to the Washington AerospaceTraining and Research (WATR) Center located at PaineField in Everett, WA this past April. Funded throughEdmonds Community College and the Dept. of LaborTrade Adjustment Assistance Community College andCareer Training (TAACCCT) grant program, the kitswill support testing and certification activities forstudents pursuing a career in aerospace by undergoingtraining in the WATR center 12 week program.
