SPACE WAVESThe radio waves having high frequencies are basically called as space waves.
Page 4
The other name of space wave propagation is line of sight propagation (LOS)
Page 5
These waves have the ability to propagate through atmosphere, from transmitter antenna to receiver antenna. It can travel directly or can travel after reflecting from earth’s surface to the troposphere surface of earth.

Limitations of
space wave propagation
Page 9
1. These waves are limited to the curvature of the earth .
Page 10
2. These waves have line of sight propagation, means their propagation is along the line of sight distance.
Page 11
To extend transmission distances at VHF, UHF, and microwaves, relay stations known as repeater stations are used.
Page 12
Applications
It is useful for FM,TV and radar applications. It is also used in VHF,UHF and microwave signals.
Page 13
The distance between transmitting and receiving antennas has a formula:
D= √2ht + √2hr
Page 14
Page 15
Example:If the transmitting antenna is 150 ft high and the receiving antenna is 40 ft high, the greatest transmission distance is:D=26.2 mi.

REVIEW!!!!The ionosphere has its greatest effect on signals on what range?a.300kHz to 3 MHzb.3 to 30 MHzc.30 to 300 MHzd.Above 300 MHz
Page 17
A microwave transmitting antenna is 550 ft high. The receiving antenna is 200 ft high. The maximum transmission distance is?33.2 mi
