Space Saving Ideas for Small Bathrooms

When you have a small bathroom it can seem almost impossible to design. How are you supposed to place everything you need in one tiny room. A toilet and a sink are a must, but how do you fit the shower/bath, the light fixtures, cabinets and everything else? Well, if you are having qualms about your small bathroom, are frustrated and starting to get a little annoyed, worry-not, below are some GREAT ideas for small bathrooms and its not the same old same old you see on every other blog either. There are some really innovative ideas included below. If you would like to discuss the design options for a small bathroom you should talk to a home remodeling contractor in NJ. Most top home remodeling

contractors in NJ are experts at bathroom design and will be able to answer all of your questions as they relate to designing a small bathroom.

European Style Baths

These are quite popular in Europe, hence the name. Essentially these wet baths are a bathroom that can and will get entirely wet. In the shower space for example, there are no surrounds, no frames, no glass doors, etc. If you shower in the space provided water will reach the !!br0ken!! Sounds a little crazy to an American, but these spaces can really

create the space you need but don’t have. One idea is to make it completely wet by adding “lines” on the flooring and walls. For example one template included an area dotted with small blue tiles of varying shades – this is the designated water area where on one side is the sink that is attached to the wall and on the opposing side is the shower head.

Then they used white tiles in a single row and then yellow for some style. Then the other side past the yellow tiles were all white tiles for the toilet. Between the

sink and the toilet – because these are the areas that will get less wet, there is a recessed space for things like soap, shampoo, and other items that can get wet. If this whole entire thing seems a little out of the ordinary or you don’t want everything to get wet, you CAN add a shower curtain on a ceiling track to sort of separate the areas and add containment for the shower area and then create a sort of slope in the shower flooring since you still wouldn’t add a surround.

Tear Drop Sinks

These are a nice option because while they are functional, they also add appeal to the bathroom. These also work really well in those oddly shaped or angled walls where you can’t put a traditional sink and cabinet because it ends up wasting space towards the sides or backs. The counter is a tear drop and the cabinet below is also a tear drop shape with one or two doors for storage space. The sink can also create a really seamless look. You can either choose the wet style above, or a regular old bath, but it’s a good idea to match your cabinet with the back walls. For instance if you use green tile on the walls, use green tile on the cabinets. If you use recycled glass for the walls, use recycled glass for the cabinet. This creates a more cohesive look so the cabinet and sink look like they belong there and are one entity not two.

Compact Smaller Shower Stall

Again if you have a smaller bathroom you might not have room for all the bells and whistles. One option is to create a small shower stall with teak floors where the water can run right through the floor and into the drain. The “stall” with a wall that is partial can create a style somewhere between traditional and modern.

The openness of the partial wall adds a sense of openness, but it also makes the bathroom feel bigger than it really is and the wall adds a sense of division and privacy.

Custom fit Shelves

If you have a really odd recessed space and you also need cabinets or shelves for storing things like towels, toothbrushes, toilet paper, etc you might be at a loss. What are you supposed to do for instance if you have an upside down L shaped recessed space to the side of the toilet on the wall? Instead of stressing out, why not get custom shelves. They can fit the larger part up top, and you can get smaller shelves for the thinner part in the middle and bottom of the L. It still allows you to have storage space and these can be a conversational piece as well to add some personality to the room.
