A composition can be broken up into three parts.The space created in a picture can be placed in one of three areas of a composition, the foreground, the middle ground, and the background.

The Foreground

is the part of the picture that is close to you. The stuff in the foreground1) looks big because it’s close to you2) is closer to the bottom of the page3) overlaps everything else in the picture

The Middle groundis the part of the picture that is in the middle between the foreground and the horizon. The stuff in the middle ground1) looks middle-sized2) is in the middle between the foreground and the horizon3) overlaps everything in the background, but is overlapped by the foreground stuff
