SFEI Annual Report: Director/Waitlist/ Migration

Status of Enrollment

• Enrolled– 125 children enrolled as of May 2014– Current enrolled families told their child’s fall placement

• Wait List: – Migration offers for fall went out in May will begin in August– Waitlist families have accepted positions– Still need a few more students for rooms 5-9: 2-5 years of

age– Expected 94-96% enrollment for 2014-2015

SFEI Annual Report: President

• SAA with NASA– SAA was signed on December 20, 2013 and

extends for 5 years.– Includes an independent HR Consultant and Child

Care Consultant as Center advisors.• Contributions this year include: staff training

and seminars, a staff handbook revision, and many classroom improvements.

SFEI Annual Report: Policies & Procedures• Furlough Policy

– Financial Hardship policy was popular and worked well– Cooperation with NASA was important in keeping CCC

open during government shutdown

• SOP Updates– Reviewed by childcare, HR consultants, and

administration– Latest published SOP is available at the website

(www.spacefamily.info)– Policy changes may be suggested by any member.

Bylaw Amendments

• 6 Amendments proposed (A-23 through A-28)– Membership approval voting will happen

along with BOD elections– Amendments incorporate consultants in

definitions and job descriptions• Required by new SAA

– Also adding experience requirements to President and Treasurer positions

2013/2014 Comments:

• Income reduced due to slightly lower enrollment (92% vs 95%) as well as decreased fees to parents

• Expenses increased to spend some of retained earnings from prior FY• Baby Room 0• Smart Boards• New washer/dryer

• Setup for future success with solid 14/15 FY Budget & a “Rainy Day Fund” for unplanned expenses

• Survived Economic Climate & 10/13 Furlough• Slight decrease in enrollment (95% vs 92%)• Furlough:

– Hardship waiver granted to ~ 40% of families during the furlough

– CCC was prepared to run for 1-2 months if Employees sent their children to school

– Teachers still got paid– Appropriately staffed

• Another Successful Year– 92%+ enrollment through most of year– Continued to shop insurance plans & service

providers– Tools & processes put in place 3 years ago to

monitor & track our finances continue w/ minor improvements/ updates

– Currently outsource Financial Officer , HR Consultant & Childcare Consultant – low cost but big value to CCC & NASA

SFEI Annual Report: Secretary• BOD Meetings

– SFEI BOD and members met 9 times since last year’s GMM (typically the third Friday of each month)

• Fall 2013 Parent and Teacher Surveys– Excellent Parent and Teacher Participation– 90% of teachers surveyed were either completely or very

satisfied with their job and SFEI– 88 % of parents surveyed were either completely or very

satisfied– ID’d the following areas of improvement that the BOD will

work:• Hiring, Staff retention and stability• Cafeteria menu• Enrichment activities • Ensuring good classroom curriculum throughout • Saturday Evenings Out

– Preparing electronic ballots for 3 candidates for 3 BOD positions

– Paperless election via NASA Human Resources web survey program

• 2014 Election website open from Monday, July 7st – July 11th for voting

• Voting site link will be emailed to all current members

– BOD election results will be announced 3rd week of July

• SFEI By-Laws– 6 Bylaw Amendments proposed (A-23 through A-28) to be voted

during 2014 BOD electrions
