“The future of the world is in our classroom today!”
MISSION STATEMENT
A non-traditional, rigorous, real-world core curriculum focused on the development of 21
st century skills
delivered through an individualized, project-based instructional model that prepares students for industry or college readiness.
GOAL
Challenging students to succeed in a hands-on, non-traditional instructional setting. No academic criteria will be required, but a passion and desire for learning will be sought for entry into LAUNCH.

INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH
PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
Problem-based learning
(PBL) is a student-centered
pedagogy in which students
learn about a subject
through the experience of
solving an open-ended
problem found in trigger
material. The PBL process
does not focus on problem
solving with a defined solu-
tion, but it allows for the
development of other de-
sirable skills and attributes.
This includes knowledge
acquisition, enhanced
group collaboration and
communication. The PBL
process was developed for
medical education and has
since been broadened in
applications for other pro-
grams of learning. The pro-
cess allows for learners to
develop skills used for their
future practice. It enhances
critical appraisal, literature
retrieval and encourages
ongoing learning in a team
environment
CURRICULUM
Growth Mindset -Growth mindset curriculum emphasizes blended-
learning curriculum designed to teach students to develop a growth mindset-the understanding that intelli-gence and abilities are not fixed and can be developed through effort. This component will be taught as part of Career/Research course requirement and infused throughout core curriculum delivery.
CTE (Career and Technical Education) -Every student entering LAUNCH will be required to
identify a CTE pathway as an academic option. These pathways include TV Production, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Engineering, Drafting, Public Service/Teaching or Software Technologies.
Certification (Students) -All students participating in Project LAUNCH will
graduate with a minimum of three industry certifications, with opportunities to yield additional certifications.
Passport - In an effort to connect and extend the knowledge
delivered in the classroom, and to cultivate civic minded citizens, PASSPORT will be a component of the Career/Research class where students will be required to experience co-curricular opportunities, such as athletic events, fine arts performances, museum exploration, and real-world industry cultural participation.
Technology -With a focus of 21
st century skills and industry needs,
technology will be an integral component of Project LAUNCH. Technology will be evident through both curriculum integration and student utilization, including tools such as Google, Black Board, Microsoft Software, Illustrator as well as industry-related technological plat-forms.
Textbooks -Textbooks have the propensity to be utilized as supple-
mentary resources and will be made available to students electronically.
Dual Enrollment -Efforts are currently underway to provide students with
dual enrollment credits with Eastern Florida State College for CTE components.

Rethinking the Classroom
Educators, researchers,
and students are
discovering the benefits
and advantages of
cooperative, active, and
engaged learning.
Classroom spaces that
support such a shift in
teaching and learning
have lagged behind. A
significant opportunity
exists for maximizing
learning opportunities
and creating meaning-
ful experiences by
rethinking the class-
room experience.
“Learning is not a spec-
tator sport…[Students]
must talk about what
they are learning, write
about it, relate it to past
experiences, apply it to
their daily lives. They
must make what they
learn part of them-
selves.”
—Chickering and Gamson
CLASSROOM SET UP
The philosophy of this educational program requires the classroom to include non-traditional, state of the art furni-ture and technology to support its academic platform.
1:1 computer laptops for students Smartboards 90” display monitors for total group learning. 45” display monitors for small group projects. 3-D printers Built-in table top computer screens
Research has shown that rapidly changing technology re-quires a shift in the way students learn. Because learning occurs outside the normal boundaries of a school building through devices that fit into a pocket, learning spaces also need transformation. In order to achieve active learning styles, classroom furniture will include fluid, multi-purpose spaces that can be instantly adapted for large groups, small teams or individual learning activities.

In addition to all students receiving a minimum of three (3) CTE certificates, a High School Diploma and participation in an industry related internship, defined benchmarks and da-ta collection will be used to maximize LAUNCH completion rates, increase scores on Florida Department of Education required testing, graduation rates and demonstrate an equity in access to educational opportunities for minority students.
OUTCOME MEASURES
Industry Resources Collaborative partnerships, supported by the integration of industry partners, and LAUNCH staff will be used in identify-ing and securing relevant industry resources to support CTE curriculum and student certification. Effective Integration of relevant industry resources will be measured through a review process by the Launch Institute Advisory Council.
Internships Partnerships with industries will be formed to provide every senior with a daily, double-block internship in the field of study.
LAUNCH Institute Advisory Council (LIAC) The Project LAUNCH Advisory Council will consist of the principal or his/her designee, the LAUNCH Director, one core instructor, one CTE instructor, one senior student, higher education representative and all industry partners. Transportation Transportation needs arising from industry exploration opportunities such as industry site visits and related cultural exploration will be met through current Brevard County School District operational policies and standards. Trans-portation support arising from the student internship compo-nent will be provided by the participating LAUNCH Student.
Student Entry Criteria In order to demonstrate a commitment to innovation and equity in education, all students within Brevard County School District whom meet the requirements for completion of 8
th grade will be eligible to enter into the LAUNCH pro-
gram. A written request/application will be submitted the pri-or year to entry into the LAUNCH program in conjunction with an interview consisting of both the applicant and LAUNCH staff members.
Deliverables Students completing the LAUNCH program will meet all necessary requirements as determined by the Brevard County School District to obtain a minimum of 3 CTE certifi-cates as well as a High School Diploma upon completion of the program.
