OPPORTUNITIES FOR AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE INDUSTRY

Defence is working to integrate more closely with the United States and other Combined Space Operations Initiatives Partners (AUS/CAN/DEU/FRA/NZL/GBR/USA) to enhance our space capabilities and coordinate efforts in space defence.

Plans for communications satellites and ground control stations under sovereign Australian control will provide opportunities for Australian companies.

• Access to space is critical to Australia’s security and why Defence is enhancing its investment in its space capabilities.• The public and Defence are increasingly reliant on satellite-based capability and services, particularly in an age where digital data and information are driving

decision-making. • Space capabilities provide situational awareness and the delivery of real-time communications and position, navigation and timing information, essential for 21st century

military operations.• Defence is working with the Australian Space Agency and industry to transform the way the ADF operates in space, across the joint force.• The 2020 Force Structure Plan aims to improve the resilience and self-reliance of Defence’s space capabilities, and enhance a large number of space-dependent

capabilities, including communications satellites and ground control stations that will be under sovereign Australian control.
