Recent SPA Activities • Members came together for the monthly SPAghetti Dinners

over the summer. During June, members ventured out to Mellow Mushroom (pictured above).

• SPA hosted two professional development workshops

facilitated by Ms. Evelyn Lora-Santos, Assistant Director of Graduate Career Services: Networking and Creating a Positive

Digital Footprint. Many thanks to Ms. Lora-Santos!

• This semester, SPA coordinated two socials. Members spent a fun-filled evening at SAKS Comedy Lounge and then the

following month enjoyed a gorgeous day at Cocoa Beach.

• Finally, SPA members and fellow HEPSters teamed up to volunteer

at this year's annual Taste of the Nation (pictured below). This event is sponsored nationally by Share Our Strength, an organization that strives to eliminate childhood hunger in the US. Orlando’s Taste of the Nation raised $167,545 for Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida!

Doctoral student, Toni Sheel, became the new Vice President of the Graduate Student Association this spring. She also received a Forum Winner at this year’s Research Week for her poster titled Re-Presenting the Black Image: An Examination of the Black Image in Film and the Social Construction of Blackness. Congratulations, Toni!
