The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has appointed Elissa C. O’Brien, SPHR, as its Vice President for Membership.
A human resource executive with more than 20 years of experience, O’Brien has been an active volunteer for SHRM, including serving on the SHRM Special Expertise Panel on Labor Relations. She also has served as state director for the Rhode Island State Council and president of the Human Resources Management Association of Rhode Island. Her appointment was effective, Friday, June 14.

• Over 480 chapters are already there!• 30 chapters need to get to 51% affiliation• 48 chapters need to get to 25 SHRM members• 26 chapters need to do both (the Fortune Forty Team!)

During your chapter’s networking time, consider using SHRM’s rolling PowerPoint presentation with updates from SHRM. The slides change automatically every 10-15 seconds and show the latest benefits and news from SHRM. The slides are located at “What’s New in the VLRC.” We hope this helps your members understand their benefits and helps your chapter retain SHRM members.

SHRM Foundation“Here’s What’s Happening with the Foundation”
• September 20th is the deadline to donate in-kind items to be auctioned off at the SHRM Leadership Conference in November. Contact Mike Ressegue if your need additional information about how your Chapter and State Council can donate items.
• Give on the Go postcards are now active in the field and the first regional donations have come in. If there are any questions or difficulties with the postcards and the QR code, please don’t hesitate to contact Mike Ressegue at any time.
• September 11th is the date of our next SHRM Foundation CLA call.
• October 1st is the deadline for chapters and state councils to submit their donations to the Foundation if they wish to be represented on the star boards at SHRM Leadership Conference.

SHRM Member DuesEffective January 2014
• SHRM will be adjusting dues by $5 dollars for memberships that have start dates on or after January 2014. That brings the annual membership to $185.
• The adjustment will guarantee that SHRM can continue to provide leading-edge services and products, and enable it to invest new resources and content.
• The increase applies to professional, general, and associate memberships. Annual membership dues will not change for students, retirees, student chapter advisors, and chapter management professionals (CMPs).
• Chapter members will receive a discounted first-year rate of $170.
