PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

On the 16th January 2017, Our club recognized several members that have contributed to its suc-cess so far and have helped grow the brand of Kampala South and Rotary in general. The recog-nition ranged from fellowship attendance, buddy group participation , contribution to TRF, partici-

pation in fundraising and service projects as well as long serving awards.

I would like to congratulate all the members that were recognized and encourage other members to emulate their contribution to so that we can achieve our goal of serving humanity. I would like to make special mention to Rotarians Past Presidents Paul Muwanga, Carol Abeja, Ebert Byenkya, Richard Mayebo Michael Ojok and Joseph Baroraho, for the recognition they received as the long-est serving club members having served for over 20 years at the club. Note should be made that the said members joined at the time when the club was struggling and at the brink of death. Their contribution and effort laid a strong foundation upon which the current sustained growth is riding

on.

As President, it was a tremendous honor to see you awarded the longest serving award.

This was the Inaugural Kampala South awards and as expected they were celebrated with the presence and musical presentation of “Sauti Ya Afrika” , a singing quartet that entertained the

members and guests. No doubt the audience was serenaded by the wonderful vocals.

EVANSTON, Ill. (17 January 2017) — Rota-ry today announced $35 million in grants to support the global effort to end polio, bring-ing the humanitarian service organization’s contribution to $140 million since January

2016.

Nearly half of the funds Rotary announced today ($16.15 million) will support the emergency response campaigns in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin (Chad, northern Cameroon, southern Niger and Central Af-rican Republic). Four cases of polio were detected in Nigeria in 2016, which had pre-

viously not seen a case since July 2014.
