outheast Texas parents are fortunate to live in an area with a number of wonderful schools and educational op-portunities for our children. This is a wonderful time to examine how satisfied

you are with your child’s current school. Are they learning? Is your child happy? Does your child look forward to going to school each morning and come home in a good mood? If so, they are probably al-ready in a wonderful environment and you can look forward to their return to the same school in the fall. If you don’t feel your child is advancing academically at an appropriate rate or if you’re concerned that they aren’t fitting in or enjoying the experience of being in school, it might be time for a change. This month, the Kids’ Directory has chosen two special schools to feature: St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Day School and All Saints Epis-copal School. St. Andrew’s Day School feels like an extension of a happy home. Walking through the halls, the children’s voices are happy and enthusiastic. The adult voices are nurturing and engaged. It is quickly apparent that you’ve discovered one of those mythical schools where both the children and the teachers are happy to be there. The environment is very safe and comfortable, which these days is a bless-ing for students and teachers alike. St. Andrew’s is focused on taking care of and educating younger children from 12 months to Pre-K 4’s. The teachers are wonderful and love working with our Southeast Texas children. St. Andrew’s Day School was established in 1964 and their focus on values, principals, and nurturing children has helped them remain a dominate force in educating young children. St. Andrew’s is geared towards teaching children to learn independently and through discovery. One of their most important tools is play. Organized play is utilized as a key learning tool at Saint Andrew’s. At many schools today, you’ll be surprised by what is not taught. Saint Andrew’s however teaches all of the kinds of things you would expect and want for your child- no key areas have been abandoned

A Solid Education Begins with a Great Preschool!

Sat Saint Andrew’s. Your child will learn science, cooking, motor skills, math, art, reading readiness, and writing skills. Want to kick it up a notch? Saint Andrews offers a strong music and chapel program, both areas many SETX parents have identified as essential- and both harder and harder to find. Saint Andrew’s even has a robust computer skills program. If your little one isn’t quite ready for the Day School, Saint An-drew’s also offers one of the region’s top Mother’s Day Out programs. Mother’s Day Out offers moms (or dads!) enough time to run errands, clean house, exercise, or to get a little down time. Bottom line- St. Andrews helps children develop strong values and morals while providing a wonderful educational foundation—all in a loving and nurturing environment. Learn more online www.saintandy.org. All Saints Episcopal School is another wonderful Southeast Texas institution. All Saints serves PK3, PK4, and Kindergarten through 8th Grade. The All Saints campus is very welcoming and comforting. It has something of an “Ivy League” feel with lots of old oak trees and a great deal of attractive green space. All Saints Episcopal is also remarkable for the dedication of the parent base. Parents are frequently seen on campus assisting with vari-ous tasks and are extremely active in planning fund raising and special initiatives and projects to make sure All Saint’s is always prepared for the next generation of academic excellence. You may be surprised to see that many of the kids aren’t carrying around a lot of textbooks. All Saint’s is probably the leader in South-east Texas for embracing new technology. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have already transitioned to having their textbooks on the IPad2 rather than traditional hardcover books. The rest of the school won’t be far behind. All Saint’s students will all be transitioned to the IPad2 by 2015. Not only does the online format offer many unique learning op-portunities over hard copies, it is also much better for children to not carry around so many heavy traditional textbooks. All Saints provides a wonderful foundation for children looking to attend the most challenging colleges and to tackle the most demanding careers. Sour Lake Ford has long been a key part of the Sour Lake Motor Co. “Truckville” team that includes Chevrolet, Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler. Sour Lake Ford just opened a brand new dealership bringing them on the same side of Highway 105 as the other Sour Lake Motor Co. dealerships. The new dealership is clean, bright, friendly, and state of the art. When you fi rst walk through the door, you know this is the place to fi nd your new Ford.Sour Lake Motor Co. became a regional powerhouse in Southeast Texas by providing the right vehicles at the right price with the right service. The dealerships have a reputa-tion for big city pricing, small town service, and low pressure sales. Sour Lake Motor Co. has also benefi tted by offering the top brands- Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler. People come from all over – Port Arthur, Orange, Silsbee, Jasper, Winnie, Cleveland, and beyond to compare the top cars on their list side by side and to get the valuable opinions of the Sour Lake Motors team. When people buy a car from Sour Lake Motors Co. they know they are getting the right vehicle from a company that is proud to stand behind their great American line of vehicles. In Texas, Sour Lake Motor Co. has been known far and wide as “Truckville”. Southeast Texas is certainly truck country, and no dealership takes more pride in putting

customers in exactly the right truck. Custom-ers come in and tell the Truckville team what their needs are, “I need to be able to pull a fi ve horse aluminum trailer with living quarters along the rodeo circuit. Searing heat, freezing cold, mountains, big cities, and I don’t ever want to break down in the middle of no-where.” “I am married with four kids. I want to be able to use one truck for my commuting vehicle with the kids, to pull my boat, and to carry everything I need to add an apartment over my garage.” Whatever you need, the Truckville team will help you fi nd the right truck- and to get the best price. Sour Lake Motor Co. is great with trucks, but they have all the popular cars, vans, and SUVs from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep. Whether you’re looking for the four door Wrangler, the Mustang Cobra, the Camaro, or the brand new Dodge Dart, Sour Lake Motor Co. will take wonderful care of you. Here’s a fun exercise — look around your house and see how many items were “Made in the USA”. It is getting harder and harder to buy American Made when you’re looking for things to go in your home. It is still easy to buy American Made when you’re looking for something for your garage- Sour Lake Motors is just 15 minutes from Parkdale Mall and their lots are packed full of American made vehicles. One is just right for you!

Hereʼs a great way to do what you love while supporting the children of Southeast Texas who are most in need. Garth House is holding its 10th annual golf classic on Monday, March 25th, 2013. You and your family, friends, or co-workers can put together a 4 person team and spend the morning or afternoon (your choice) golfi ng at Brentwood Country Club. Contact Kim Hanks at Garth House for more information or to register your team. Morning and afternoon spots currently available. The Garth House provides a safe environment for children to tell their sto-ries and to get the help they need.
