Conference & Camp Scholarships The District VI 4-H Senate has voted to provide scholarships for district 4-H members to attend state, regional, and district events. For Dare to Be You and Caballeros & Clovers 4-H Camps one scholarship will be offered for each county. For LDC, Youth Fest, District Retreat, Camp Go West, and State Conference two scholarship maximum will be offered for the whole district. A deposit for the registration amount will be held, but will only be deposited if the scholarship winner does not attend. Due dates for scholarships will be advertised in the newsletter. There is an application that must be completed. You can get the application from your local ex-tension office. State Conference Scholarship Applications are due May 15th, Caballeros & Clovers Camp Scholarship Appli-cations are due May 19th, and Camp Go West Scholarship Applications are due June 1st.

Daniel Kasza Memorial Scholarship All District VI (Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero, and Prowers Counties) graduating seniors are encouraged to apply for the Daniel Kasza Memorial 4-H Scholarship. One $750 scholarship will be awarded to an eligible applicant. Criteria and applications are now available from SE Area Extension Offices and on the area website, and are due April 1. Contact Kaye, [email protected] or 719.829.4208, for more information.

Colorado 4-H Foundation Scholarships

The Colorado 4-H Foundation has a scholarship application program that awards over 20 scholarships to Colorado 4-H members. These scholarships all require 4-H membership, but focus on different fields of study and interest. The scholarship application can be found on the 4-H Foundation website at http://co4hfoundation.extension.colostate.edu/benefits/colorado-4-h-foundation-scholarships/. The deadline to submit application is April 1st.

Add/Drop Deadline

Members wishing to either add or drop a project have until April 14th to do so. All additions and drops must be done in writ-ing, on the appropriate form, and signed by both the member and their parent/legal guardian. Add/drop forms are availa-ble at the Extension Office. Remember, you must be enrolled in at least one project to maintain your 4-H membership, and to par-ticipate in 4-H activities.

New Southeast Area Website The Southeast Area Extension has a new website. Check out http://sea.extension.colostate.edu/ for Southeast Area related information.

4H Online – Email Blasts

From time to time the State office will be sending emails directly to the 4-H members. It is the easiest and most effective way to communicate important State events and requirements. We know that not everyone particularly enjoys the extra emails and there have been requests to be unsubscribed. It is important to know that if you do that, you would not receive any re-enrollment emails or information the County office sends directly to you. Please do not “unsubscribe.”

State Fair Exhibit Requirements

The 2017 State Fair Exhibit Requirements have been updated. You can find them at http://www.colorado4h.org/project_resources/StateFairExhibitReq.pdf. Please be sure to refer to the exhibit requirements when you are planning on your project, as this is what it will be judged on at both county and state fair.

New for 2017, the market swine show will no longer be terminal. In other words, those swine that do NOT qualify for the junior livestock sale will be allowed to go home with the exhibitor. Retinal scanning will still be required for all market beef, market sheep, and market goats to be nominated for the show. Market swine will still turn in ear notches. There is a $5 fee per head for retinal scanning. You will be responsible for making arrangements with your extension agent to get your animals retinal scanned.

The Sand and Sage Round-Up is a county wide youth, adult, and community showcase. The Sand and Sage Round-Up helps form attitudes that will enable

youth to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society. Youth learn from their experience. Part of their experience is observing and

modeling their behavior after adults they know and respect.

To contribute in a positive way for Prowers County youth development Sand and Sage Round-Up Volunteers, Parents, and family members, participants, and

other adults will:

• Conduct themselves in a mature, courteous and respectful manner, use appropriate language, exhibit honesty, good sportsmanship and act as a positive role

model.

• Provide a safe learning environment, free of physical abuse, mental abuse, ethnic, racial and sexual harassment or exploitation of the youth participants.

• Adhere to all Sand and Sage Round-Up rules and policies.

• Abstain from the use of alcohol and illegal drugs while participating in Sand & Sage Round-Up youth events/programs.

• Respect the rights and authority of fair board members, superintendents, agriculture education teachers, leaders, parents, and Extension staff.

• Refrain from physical or verbal abuse.

• Apply rules of safety to individuals, groups, and property.

• Accept personal responsibility for behavior.

Violation of items listed above will result in probation of the youth participant affiliated with the violating adult the following year of the infraction. Law en-

forcement may be called and illegal behaviors may result in citations or arrest. Consequences may include removal, at the individuals' expense and without re-

fund, from participation in the event; restitution or repayment of damages; sanctions on participation in future Sand and Sage Fair activities. Should an exhibitor

appeal an infraction the fair protest process will be followed.
