Map InformationThe purpose of the requested mapping is to generate comprehensive k nowledge throughperforming pre-disaster situation analy sis concerning eventual eruption of the Ny iragongo volcanolocated near to Goma, capital of the Democratic R epublic of Congo (DR C).The results refer to back ground information as well as to the assessment of the impact of a potentialvolcano activity to the surrounding urban agglomerations and infrastructures; detailed DigitalElevation Model (DEM), hazard, exposure and vulnerability. Towards supporting informed decisionmak ing of the involved stak eholders with reference to disaster preparedness and disastermanagement an evacuation plan has also been elaborated.Key user of the geospatial information and the related map series is the DG ECH O , EmergencyR esponse and Coordination center (ER CC).

Map ProductionThe map shows the assessment of the vulnerability of the transportation network for a specific area(map index), within the Democratic R epublic of the Congo. The estimation of the vulnerability isobtained through an index based on the transportation capacity of each road segment and on theresidents who live on both sides of the street. The resulting vulnerability has been classified in fivecategories (very low, low, medium, high, very high).The estimated geometric accuracy of the images is 5 m and complies with the J R C requirementsreferring to the mapping scale and is fully supported by the native positional accuracy of theback ground satellite imagery.The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 85% or better, based on internal validationprocedures and visual interpretation of recognizable items on very high resolution optical imagery.The statistical table included in the map shows the road segments at various vulnerability levels.
