Gap Analysis Communication with providers is fragmented due to
schedules and availability which in turn makes
communication between hospital and patients
fragmented
• What to expect when arriving in labor at
hospital
• What their postpartum experience will be
like
• Inaccuracies then posted and proliferated on
social media

Gap Analysis Majority of expectant moms utilize their mobile devices to
receive information
• Printed materials often lost or discarded after initial
intake visit
• Redundant materials given at intake for prenatal care
and admission to postpartum unit
• Other materials given out at various times throughout
prenatal experience with no defined standard
• SSH Website can be difficult to navigate

CountermeasuresIF WE Create a mobile app and promote it during our patient’s prenatal intake
appointment…
• THEN WE Should make all pertinent information easily accessible for
patients throughout their obstetrical experience and will be able to supply
that information in a consistent and uniform manner regardless of which
private practice they choose…
• AND WE Should not need to spend as much money, time and effort on
printed materials that provide minimal value…
• AND WE Should see our Obstetrical HCAHPS scores related to Hospital
Rating and Care Transitions improve…

Insights• The flexibility and usability of the technological platform makes adding, editing and
updating pertinent patient information extremely easy
• The SSHBabies app offered our organization an introduction to mobile technology for
patients and spawned many other app ideas for SSH
• OB/GYN Physicians and support staff may have a more difficult time with change than
our patients
