Dear Tunbridge Families, February 21, 2018

In January One Planet underwent a very thorough site visit process. A team from the state spent three days visiting all of our programs and interviewing staff, parents, administrators and students. They compiled their “findings” in a report, which will be a great guide for our programs over the next year. We are pleased that much of what they observed was very positive. One area we want to im-prove is increasing engagement and participation among our older elementary students (3 rd-6th). We have identified many possible strategies and each site will be implementing 1-2 of those strategies this spring. If you notice that there are two enrichment programs offered on one day and none the next, please know this is an intentional strategy to increase choice. Or at some sites, we may be of-fering an enrichment to just the K-2nd, allowing the 3rd-6th to have the option of self-guided activities (such as drawing or board games, etc.). We will be experimenting this spring session to see what works and doesn’t work, so please bear with us!

Please consider contacting the Family Place for a Childcare Assistance application at 802-649-3268 or at http://www.familyplacevt.org/. One Planet also has scholarships available for those who need it. Please talk to your Site Coordinator.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS

Inside-out GardeningStudents will once again to get out with one of our favorite gals, Mrs. Childs, and do some digging in the dirt. Student shall prepare the seeds for planting this spring as well as learning about different crops and varieties of plants. The children will also get to bring some plants home and pass along what their learned to their families and perhaps even get to eat some yummy veggies! So come on out and dig in the dirt with Cathy! This enrichment is taught be a licensed teacher.

Story TreeUsing the magic of imagination and a story bag full of wonderful and mysterious objects children will participate in a guided journey where they are cooperatively building a new world. Come see what is in Jools' super secret story bag!

Numbers in Time and SpaceIn this brand new STEM enrichment students will explore how numbers, form and function are all around and how they impact our lives each and every day. Using examples from art, music and science students will explore an exciting new topic each and every week.

Girls on the RunGirls on the Run inspires girls to take charge of their lives and define the future on their terms. It’s a place where girls learn that they can. No limits. No constraints. Only opportunities to be remarkable. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them. Then we look at the role of teams and healthy relationships. And, finally, we explore how girls can positively connect with and shape the world. This enrichment is taught be a licensed teachers. Story ArtStudent shall be building off of what they have learned about narrative construction in previous classes. However, it will be brought together in a story that they will create, tell and illustrate.

Nature Artin Nature art students will get outside and explore their creative side in nature. We will make sketchbooks and draw from our natural environment. Using found materials like leaves, pinecones and sticks students will create sculptures as well as learn about wind power and aerodynamics by making kites. This enrichment is taught by a licensed educator. This enrichment is taught be a licensed teacher.programming their way!
