South Orangetown Central School District Calendar
2015-2016
Dear Residents,All of us in the South Orangetown Central School District are driven by our mission to prepare every student to learn and grow as responsible citizens. The 2015-16 school year will provide new and exciting opportunities for our students in the areas of scholarship, fine arts, athletics, community involvement, and social development. With so many activities happening within our school district, we feel that this calendar will assist families by
providing much needed information to manage busy schedules.
The SOCSD 2015-16 school calendar represents the collective effort of a variety of stakeholder groups among our staff and community and reflects our shared commitment to student success. Our collaborative efforts and family partnerships will ensure that all children are successful and that each is able to reach his or her full potential by making a commitment to our district’s motto: “Together We Can”. I encourage all parents and community members to get involved and stay involved throughout the school year. To this end, the staff and I are available to address any questions that you may have about our school district and how we may better meet the needs of our students.
The calendar also represents a major part of our comprehensive communications strategy that our district uses to provide valuable information to our families. Other elements of our communications effort include social media, electronic mail, school messenger telephone alerts, newsletters, mailings, and face-to-face information sessions. In order that we may better serve our community of learners, we ask that our families provide the school district with up-to-date
contact information (telephone numbers, email, and postal addresses). This may be accomplished by contacting the principal or main office staff where the student attends school.
Over the course of the 2015-16 school year, I plan to make myself available to families and community members to ensure that all voices are heard with a strong emphasis on two-way, face-to-face communications. One of our most important tasks that our community must face is the building of partnerships that are responsive to the needs of our children and their families. As such, I look forward to serving the South Orangetown Central School District and am excited at the prospects that the new school year brings!
Sincerely,
Robert R. Pritchard, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
