Hello,

The year is coming to end and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work.

If you look back, we accomplished quite a bit with the resources that we have. We

started the season with me all choked up at installation and now I’m certain you

just want me to stop talking. After that we moved on to a great “Pier Bidding” and

then into all the projects.

1) Updated the back-hall ceiling and lighting. This project included remov-

ing to abandoned air handling system in the back hall, moving all of the

lighting controls and a fresh coat of paint. We had a lot of bodies on this

project and I think it looks great.

2) Reconfigure and Update the Hall kitchen and Storage. This project even

looks better. It made the whole area more functional and plan to continue

with several more updates.

3) Replacement of the Decking on the front Deck. Well most of it is done

and we will finish it off in the spring.

4) Have made leaps and bounds on our Building Beautification project,

AKA Designated Smoking area. Notice who is smoking in this month’s

photo of the month.

5) Reconfigured the Liquor cabinet. We decided to do this as a step towards

cleaning out the basement. It just made sense to move some of the bar

consumables to this location.

6) Purchased a new Fork lift. Yes, the old Clark was just about done.

7) Made major steps in cleaning out and reorganizing the basement. The

hopes are to finish this up before putting the Christmas decorations away.

8) Purchased all of the equipment to update our Wi-Fi and internet, Point of

use sales equipment and our club computer systems. If you used any of

the old stuff at any time you would recognize why this is a great thing.

9) Freshened up the lady’s room.

10) Our financial group did wonders at cleaning up our books and I would

very much like to thank them. This is the type of work that truly does not

get any recognition and it is a huge part of running an organization like

this.

11) We are tirelessly working on ways to improve communication. Facebook

has been taking off, we are close on a new website. We changed the ap-

proach of the high tide by trying to honor our senior members.

And after working on these projects we still managed to have plenty of fun, St. Patty’s dinner, Bless-

ing of the Fleet, Summer Picnic, Powder puff, Slip Shots, Steak night, Hang over Breakfast, The

Haase Country party, Trim a Tree, The children’s Christmas Party. I’m certain I missed a whole lot of

items.

The fishing group was also strong this year and while I remember not so long ago one of our strong-

est current fishermen was in fact the weakest link. Well he proved what practice can do and is going

to fill up the trophy this year. Congratulations Ron. I hear the plaque is being engraved as I type.

And then there is week days, we have our card guys playing cards a few days of the week, our new

Trivia night on Wednesdays and now back to Hors d'oeuvre night on the first Friday of the month.

Remember just because it’s not weekend doesn’t mean something isn’t going on. We also sometimes

watch football on Sunday’s as well.

While we did not improve the harbor electrical as intended I think we have a better understanding of

what it will take and are still moving forward in the planning. We finished the season with strong fi-

nancials and I’m certain the year we be filled with projects to meet our infrastructure needs for tomor-

row and into the future.

So that last thing I would like to say for the year is this. Sadly enough as our membership is growing

in age. Members are moving on to retirement, or just moving on with life in general. It is our respon-

sibility to keep the club moving forward with the highs and the lows. We need to continue to build the

personal relationships that will hopefully last a life time. As some of the key members retire we need

to back fill the enthusiasm that they have for this organization and continue on with their legacy of

hard work and dedication. Remember that this is your club, what you get out of it is in direct relation-

ship to your involvement. As always, if you are interested in a position on the board, a committee

chair, a committee member or just a person who likes to help occasionally. Please let me or any other

board member know, and we will get you in touch with the right people.

See you at the club,

Bryan Gahan SMYC Commodore (c) 906-369-4098 (e) [email protected]
