Writing Tasks

Monday 11th May Writing QuestionsLast week we began learning about castles. Now you know a little bit about castles think of some questions you would like to find out the answers to. Write these in your best handwriting. Remember questions need to begin with a question word (Who, What, Where, Why, How, Do, Is etc.) and finish with a question mark (?).

Tuesday 12th May Comparing similar storiesListen to (or read if you have them at home) the two different viewpoints based on the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Discuss with a sibling or adult the similarities and differences between the two stories. Complete the worksheet provided below to share your thoughts on how these stories differ.Jack and the Beanstalk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyYh43hxStsJim and the Beanstalk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMaMNpod3Es

Wednesday 13th May

Wanted Poster

Yesterday, you listened to two stories from two different viewpoints. In Jack and the Beanstalk the giant was the baddie who wanted to eat Jack! In Jim and the Beanstalk we heard that Jack was the baddie who kept stealing the giant’s belongings! Who do you believe? Is Jack or the giant really the baddie?

Create a wanted poster to encourage the capture of the true baddie. Include a picture of the baddie and a description of what they look like, how they might act, how they might be captured and any reward you might give to the person that captures them.

Remember to use your neatest handwriting and use a range of punctuation. You could even challenge yourself to include a question and a question mark.

Thursday 14th May

Story planning

Next week, you will be writing a story based on Jack and the Beanstalk but told from the giants point of view. Below is a link to the story ‘Trust Me, Jacks Beanstalk Stinks!’ written by Eric Braun. This story is also told from the giant’s point of view and may provide some ideas and inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyjKQcCbjT0

Create puppets or cut outs of the giant, Jack and any other main characters and objects you would like to have in your story. Get creative and have fun acting out your own version. If you have kept the castle drawing or model you made last week, you could even use this to help you tell your story. Remember you are the giant! But are you mean or nice? You decide.

Friday 8th MayStory planning

I hope you had fun getting imaginative yesterday. Today, we would like you to create a story map to help develop your ideas and structure your story ready for writing next week. A story map is a set of pictures to show the order of events in your story joined together with arrows. You can include some important words, sounds or descriptive language if this will help you.
