SOUTH CURL CURL SLSC NEWSLETTER
On behalf of the Committee, I would like to wish each and every one of you our best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. Patrols continue over this festive season, so if you are rostered and cannot attend a patrol, can you please make every effort to find someone to do your patrol.
Proficiencies and Patrol Hours - if you are planning to attend any Branch, State or National carnivals in 2012, you will need to ensure that your hours are up to date by 31st December. Log in to lifesaving online to determine your patrol hours. Recent events with one of our neighbours has reminded us that we do live within a residential area. Yes, the club has been here in one form or another for over 100 years, however these are our neighbours and we need to be considerate to their need for peace and quiet (I would expect the same consideration). Of course this is a two way street and our neighbours do need to be respectful of our needs and be reminded that this is an active Surf Life Saving Club with a membership of 1,000 . To date noise complaints have impacted functions for our 13 to 17 year
olds, and ended entertainment at our Club Christmas party at 8:55pm. Action will be taken by the club to seek mediation through Community Justice with this neighbour to ensure that we have an understanding of his/her particular needs. Dee Why Police are intimately involved with these issues and certainly understand our position, though there hands are tied and must act upon complaints.....genuine or other. Reminder that for anyone interested in participating in the 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landings you will need to submit an expression interest over the next few weeks to [email protected]. Deposits are due in March to confirm bookings. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Please allow a margin for error in the groupings, we have so many nippers now, it’s not always easy to work out which age group they belong to! Any questions or problems with the links, contact Vivienne on [email protected]
Gallipoli Trip FundraiserJudith Joyce, much beZer-‐half of Life Member Denzil, has spent the last couple of months pu^ng the finishing touches on one of her legendary South Curly blue and gold crotchet rugs which she has donated to the Club to raffle to raise funds for the forthcoming Gallipoli Tour. Every home should have one of these iconic, retro leg warmers – great for keeping you warm in front of the TV or under the tent at a cold, wet carnival! The rug measures approx 1.5 x 1 metres. Tickets will be on sale in the new year at Sippers so don’t miss out. The Club would like to sincerely thank Judith for this most generous contribuKon to kick-‐start our fundraising efforts.

Employee Volunteer Grant Schemes
Many corporaKons award grants to community organisaKons at which their employees perform volunteer services and is a way for corporaKons to support their employee volunteerism. Whilst the club sponsorship commiZee do approach corporaKons for grants and sponsorship funds ourselves, it is becoming more popular for businesses to show their support of community organisaKons via their employees. If you think your employer may have such a scheme the club would be very grateful if you could apply.
Important Notification re Membership Archive
Members who are sKll not financial or completed necessary paperwork etc. will be archived at 31st December. This means you will be removed from any patrol rosters you are on and you will no longer receive any club communicaKons. Please pay your membership fees online via the front page of the club website and then complete an online registraKon via www.lifesavingonline.com.au to sort your paperwork out. If you are on the beach as a non-‐financial member you have no insurance coverage and as such put the public and your fellow members at risk.
