A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE GOLDEN GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH OF TRAVELERS REST ON THE OCCASION OF ITS HISTORIC TWO HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE CHURCH FOR TWO CENTURIES OF SERVICE TO GOD AND THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, having been founded in 1814, Golden Grove Baptist Church of Travelers Rest is celebrating its historic two hundredth anniversary in 2014; and

Whereas, two centuries ago, Golden Grove Baptist Church was organized for the worship of Almighty God. Through all the challenges of the years, Golden Grove Baptist has continued to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serve the Lord; and

Whereas, God blessed the church from its humble beginnings in a brush arbor, and the congregation now worships in a beautiful brick edifice on Goodwin Bridge Road; and

Whereas, on Sunday, June 8, 2014, the grateful congregation of Golden Grove Baptist will hold a special commemorative event to celebrate God’s faithfulness to the church, both spiritually and materially, over two centuries; and

Whereas, standing on the faith and strength of its early pastors and members, Golden Grove Baptist Church’s present congregation “presses toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14), continuing to preach and teach the Word of God; and

Whereas, Golden Grove Baptist Church has been a beacon of light and a community worship center in the Travelers Rest area for two hundred years, and, God willing, will continue its godly heritage for many more years of worship and service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Golden Grove Baptist Church of Travelers Rest on the occasion of its historic two hundredth anniversary and commend the church for two centuries of service to God and the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Michael M. Beckett, Sr., for the congregation of Golden Grove Baptist Church.
