South can-structs learning, helps less fortunate by Gracie Grimm
This year, with the help and guidance of Ms. Sunni, SLES built a can-struction! A can-struction is a construction project built from can goods. SLES is the first school in Livingston County to do this. Stu-dents built a giant SpongeBob! Cans were recently collected from the school to build the cartoon character. Upon disassembling SpongeBob, the can goods will be used to make Thanksgiving bas-kets, which will be donated to the less fortunate.

Livingston County youth learn life lessons through NED
It was the loveable cartoon character NED who taught students from North and South elementary schools the finer aspects of moral fiber and the facets of success. The assembly was part of the Livingston School District’s Red Ribbon Week celebration and was sponsored by Family First, Livingston County’s Family Resources and Youth Service Center. The NED Show illustrated three critical
skills student need to create success, three actions that serve as NED’s namesake: Never Give Up, Encourage Others, and Do Your Best. The NED presenter conveyed his message using yo-yos, magic tricks, dramatic speech, and the adven-
tures of NED in his visual lesson. Jennifer Marshall-Ashley, the school district’s public relations direc-tor, was witness to the affective performance of the NED Show. “Students enjoyed an engaging perfor-mance that focused on the importance of persis-tence, kindness, diligence, and excellence. Humor, audience participation, storytelling, and amazing yo-yo tricks all combined to make it a truly memo-rable and educational experience,” she said.
The South Sun would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving! We are thankful for
you!

Mrs. Goss’s class carves pumpkins by Noah Slayden
Mrs. Goss’s class gutted pumpkins and carved them.
They practiced all kinds of skills, including determin-
ing the circumference, vertical lines and weight of
their pumpkin, hypothesizing the number of seeds in
a pumpkin, and taking
notes.
A special thanks to Mrs.
Jennifer Marshall-Ashley
for providing these photos.

by Sheyenna Stytz
Livingston County Family First is doing it again! After several years of the Christmas for Kids program, they are going another year. The Christmas for Kids program is to help struggling parents give their chil-dren a Christmas holiday. Some parents can’t afford to give thier kids a Christmas. Each kid will receive $50’s worth of gifts from the generosity of donors in the community.
Just Dance 3 as seen by Aliya

My experi-
ence playing
Just Dance 3
was fun. My
four friends,
Macy Adrian,
Bailey Loop-
er, Hunter
Doom, and
Zoe Skinner, played the game in Mrs. Susan Holt’s
room. It was very fun having my friends around me
while I played Just Dance 3 because they cheered for
me. We all competed against each other. So if you’re
thinking about buying Just Dance 3, you should buy it.
SLES recognized at Meet the Cards by Bailey Looper and Aliya Ross
At Livingston Central High School is where Meet the Cardi-nals took place on No-vember 3. They had a chili supper that be-gan at 5PM in the LCHS cafeteria. Meet the Cardinals is important because they introduce the ballplayers. The county’s Little League program was also recognized. Many SLES students took to the court for an introduction.

Barrel racing history by Carsyn Jones
Barrel racing began in Texas. In the
1950s people began taking barrel rac-
ing more seriously, and clinics were
starting to be held. Specialized training
equipment like barrel racing saddles
were also made for the first time. Why I
love barrel racing is because you know
even if you mess up, you put yourself
up to it. The reason you should love
barrel racing is because you can start
out with a slow or a fast horse . . .
choose your speed!
4-H hosts Rabbit Club by Gracie Grimm
If you have a rabbit, then
this is the club for you! Rabbit Club
is a 4-H organization where you
learn how to care for your rabbit.
This is a great place to bond with
your rabbit. Ever since I have been
in Rabbit Club, I have learned so
much about my rabbit, like how to
cut his nails and how to flip him
over. You will learn showmanship
of showing your rabbit. It will meet
the last Thursday of every month at
the Extension Office in Smithland.
It’s not too late to join! To
join you need to come to the next
meeting. Jessica Mathis, a staff
member at the office, is the leader of
this club.
*Fun Fact: Rabbits sleep with their
eyes open.
Mrs. Goss named October
Teacher of the Month by Jada Cosby
The Teacher of the Month
in October was Mrs. Goss.
She does lots of experi-
ments with her class, and
they have lots of fun doing
them. Her favorite subject is
science, which explains why
her class does tons of exper-
iments.
She enjoys her job that she
has been doing for eighteen
years. She graduated from Murray State University in
1994. She loves her job because of the kids, parents,
and co-workers. Mrs. Goss believes that a teacher’s
ultimate goal is for kids to feel successful not only
academically but also about themselves.
SLES students attend Princess Party/Superhero School At Livingston Central High School the Future Leaders of America (FBLA)
hosted the sixth annual Princess Party/Superhero School for the county’s pre-school through third grade students. Princess participants had the opportunity to attend a tea party and pose for a photograph with Prince Charming and the Princesses, which included Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, Snow White, and more. They also gained entry to the Princess Ball and “Pretty as a Princess” sta-tion.
Those who attended the Superhero School were able to visit and take photos with their favorite Superhero, including the classic Wolverine, Spider-man, and Batman. Students were able to enjoy snacks at the refueling station and put their super-hero skills to the test with awesome games!
Young scientists in Ms. Sunni’s class created ani-mal cells to better under-stand how they work.
