Whether through illness or otherwise, this non-attendance has an effect. I realise that ill- ness does require time away from school, but the point here for all parents is that we are to minimise any sort of absence. NOTE: Lateness to school isn‘t good either. Let‘s remember—in the workplace this would get adults ―sacked‖ from their job. Life lessons start very young—don‘t miss the opportunity to instil good attitudes and values early. AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST MORNING TEA I would like to congratulate our Choir and Ripper Skippers for performing at Barrett‘s Biggest Morning Tea. Our choir students performed first at around 9.15am then our Ripper Skippers demonstrated their skills. Both groups of students are fabulous ambassadors for our school. Many thanks to their respective coaches Mrs Nicolao, Miss Webb and Ms Hutton. Thank you also to the many school community members who supported this wonderful event, as all funds raised go to help The Cancer Council. Our school would also like acknowledge Barretts as they are great supporters of our school. They invite us to participate each year, then provide the bus and some morning tea ―goodies‖ for the students. FUN RUN Money raised from last Friday‘s Fun Run will be used to fund our literacy resource project. We are in the process of updating and replacing our entire collection of Home readers and purchasing an array of good quality literature across all year levels. Along with this will be the purchase of e-books that can be displayed on the class interactive whiteboard. I ask that parents help our students get behind these projects by support- ing the Fun Run‘s sponsorship idea. The students can win some great prizes according to the amount of money raised. There is even a national prize of a trip to Disneyland for some lucky person who raises money in this program across Australia. We are hoping to raise enough money to have some left over for our Library to purchase more access to the accelerated reader program. I look forward to seeing all of these projects come to fruition for our students to enjoy. STUDENTS REQUIRING MEDICIATION For those students who require prescription medication to be administered whilst at school: · Parents are required to complete medication request forms (available from the Front Office), and · Students are to bring medication to the school office for safe keeping. Medication will be administered by one of the school‘s Administration Team. YEAR 6 CAMP Our year 6s will be attending camp next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Perth at the Pt. Walter Camp School. The students‘ respective teachers are looking forward to the way the students conduct themselves and participate, especially in the physical challenges. I am keen to see how all students involve themselves and the way they go about their responsibilities. I congratulate the teachers who give up their family-time to attend, so that our kids can have the great experiences that they have – Ms Goodman, Mr Allen, Mr Greaves, Mrs Stokes and the staff from the ESC deserve thanks for their efforts for the time spent organizing buses, food, places to visit and activities. ATTENDANCE Every day matters—the latest research outlines that every day a student has away from their class‘ learning program, impacts on a student‘s ability to learn. Whether through illness or otherwise, this non-attendance has an effect. I realise that ill-ness does require time away from school, but the point here for all parents is that we are to minimise any sort of absence. NOTE: Lateness to school isn‘t good either. Our nature playground is a wonderful addition to our school grounds that has been progressing well. We thank the following helpers for volunteering their time to get the playground ready for all students to enjoy. Mick Saunders and Kel Mitchell, Dave Grey and 3 apprentices, Matt Cooper, Warren (Della), Susie, Elena, Zoe and Penny Delaporte, Rebecca and Isadore, Sue, Simon, Sarah and Declan Duce, Glenn, Jody, Amalie, Chloe and Poppy Gates, Kirstie Rowe, Taryn and Adrian Barrett,

Sarah, Jeff, Jacob and Lilly Henderson.

Many of our students have participated in the Eisteddfod this year. Congratulations on your commitment to practise for this

event.

Piano Section

I played Super Boogie on the 3rd of June and I played Robin Red Breast on the 4th. There was two piano’s. One was a grand piano and the other was a Yamaha. I got to play on the

Grand Piano.

Hayley

I have been practising for the Eisteddfod for two months and the day came for my first performance. I was very nervous at first but my good friend Tiary was with me. We were performing our first duet together and had special sequined jackets for this day. The piece we played was called Jamaican Market. There were many people watching with happy faces which made me feel comfortable and happy to be there. After we played our duet we bowed while the crowd clapped. I felt relieved and real-ly proud. We made no mistakes. l love to play the piano and I

can’t wait to play next year.

Isadore

On Tuesday the strings section was held at the Bunbury Ei-steddfod and I performed in two categories: the under twelve classical solo and the primary school string quartet. For those of you who don’t know, an Eisteddfod is a month long performing arts festival that includes singing, dancing, acting and all types of musical instruments. I played the violin and my piece was “Spring” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. I felt very nervous back stage but as I stated playing I just leaned into it. This was a very hard piece and I spent hours practising it, but all that hard work

paid off and I won first prize which is always a bonus.

A huge thank you to every one who donated an item for

―Give a damn give a can 2015– Helping Others. The Bunbury

Virtue of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is giving someone another chance after they have done something wrong, knowing that everyone makes mistakes. It is making amends instead of taking revenge. It is important to forgive yourself, too. Forgiving yourself means to stop punishing yourself or feeling hope-

less because of mistakes.

Signs of success: when practicing forgiveness you will

Remember that everyone makes mistakes

Take responsibility for your own mistakes

Share your feelings without taking revenge

Stop giving uncaring people the chance to hurt you.

The children looked like they had a blast on Friday during the Fun Run. 55 minutes of fun filled, sometimes exhausting, running,

walking, jogging, skipping. Well done to all our students for completing this event.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored the children to raise money for our P&C. So far our P&C have supported the school this year

by funding a complete new set of home readers

We had a lovely group of parents and friends help on Friday to cook sausages and prepare a sausage sizzle lunch, paid for by the P&C, for all our students to celebrate WA day. Each child had a sausage sizzle, bottle of water and a piece of fruit for lunch.

Following lunch our Ripper Skippers performed routines for the school before the Fun Run started.

Our school grounds have lost some trees due to new buildings and the movement of the playground equipment. Mr Williams spent time on Friday with classes, planting trees to replace those that have been lost. Planting the native trees was a part of the

recognition of WA Day where the planting of trees is symbolic of paying it forward for the future.

In March this year, our Room 2 and 3 students had

an excursion called ‗Re discover Street Art‖.

Students walked around the CBD looking at the huge and inspiring art work on many of the large walls of buildings such as the back of Souths

Furniture and the side of The Commercial Club.

Artist Andrew Frazer spent time with the students talking to them about his work with the Re-discover

Street Art Program.

Students followed up this excursion by drawing their versions of the street art they had seen. Mrs Smith sent their work to Andrew as a thankyou for his time

on their excursion.

As you can see from the image to the left, Andrew was thrilled to receive the package and wrote on his facebook page. He said ―that there are these mo-ments that inspire me to keep going,‖ and ―I will

treasure them in my studio.‖

Thanks to Mrs Pauline Smith for this wonderful ex-cursion and sharing our students art work with An-

drew.

Biggest Morning Tea at William Barrett and Sons

On Thursday 28th May, our Ripper Skippers and School Choir accompanied by Miss Webb and Mrs Nicolao, were in attend-ance at William Barrett and Sons Biggest Morning Tea. Our students performed and entertained the many people who were

there in support of the event which raises money and awareness for cancer.

On the 9th of June, a lady called Therese came into our class, Room 15. She came from Perth, and did a drama workshop with us. The theme of the workshop was bullying. She told us a bit about a play called ‗I Am Jack,‘ which was adapted from a book. We did tablos, which is basically like a picture of something, which is happening. We did some single tablos, and then group ones. In my group was myself, Riley, Ashlyn, Holly and Maya. We did tablos on the theme of bullying, like in some of those pic-

tures. It was an amazing experience working with Therese, and most of our class thoroughly enjoyed it!

Room 15 ‗I Am Jack‖ bullying workshop

On the 9th of June 2015, room 15 got a chance to do a workshop with a lovely lady, called Therese. The workshop was about a play named ―I am Jack‖, which is about bulling. We learned how to do tablos which is basically freezing on the spot like a photo. We did tablos by ourselves then in groups, in my group were Riley, Ashlyn, Holly, Holly, and myself. It was an amazing experience to work with Therese, also a lot of fun to. Therese was kind and she came all the way from Perth. I hope we get to do this some other time

soon. It was really fun!
