South Bird Island is located on the Laguna Madre side of Padre Island National Seashore due west of the main entrance road to the National Seashore. The island is about ¼ mile in length and about ½ mile off of the Seashore’s west side, near Big Hill. It lies about 200 feet east of Green Can Buoy #111 in the CGWW.

25. Booming Strategy RecommendationApproximately 5000+ ft. of protection booming would be effective to protect most areas impacted at or near this site. Entire island is a natural collection spot. An inlet is 1/3 mile inside the east side of the island, recommend booming off 30 yards at the mouth.
SAFETY NOTE: The depth of Laguna Madre is 18-24”. Be aware of rattlesnakes and/or water moccasins that frequent the area.
