ABSTRACT: This contribution provides the current status of femto cell requirements work in TSG-S WG1.

Status of Femto Cell Requirements in 3GPP2

Deliberation of input requirements started May 2007 Full draft containing sum of input was put together August

2007 An interim TSG-S WG1 teleconference held September 13,

with good progress:Approximately 33% of the requirements at least

discussed;Approximately 25% of the total proposed text accepted.

At the close of the TSG-S WG1 meeting in Long Beach last week:

Approximately 75% of the requirements has been discussed.

Approximately 70% of the total proposed text has been accepted.

Scope and Direction

Femto Cell System is envisioned to support a common OAM&P, a common femto system architecture, and a common core network

Femto cells will provide ease of installation and subscriber support Device procured as a commodity item in general electronics store Installed by the user at home according to operator guidelines After connection to the fixed broadband network, it starts operation

Initial goal is to have femto cells support existing HRPD and 1x terminals Improvements in “femto-aware” terminals to be considered after

Phase 1 Femto cells co-exist and interwork with the macrocellular system

Minimize interference, support handoff Femto cell systems use existing standard RAN and core network

interfaces It is possible to either restrict access of a terminal to a femto cell, or to

allow unrestricted access by any terminal
