"I was not elated because I was never convinced it was going to work. A lot of

SIngaporeans were elated because those who had dreamt their whole life of the

reunion of Singapore with the Peninsula and the common market that would

follow and so on. And now also a lot... you might remember that a lot of the

political activities in SIngapore had originated from the Peninsula. SO to then, the

reunion of two entities is a logical step to make us one again. ut I am born here.

I don!t have this kind of feeling for the Peninsula. I have no nostalgia for the

Peninsula and I felt suciently di#erent from the people from the Peninsula. I

was not convinced it would work.!

!&e are getting a little tired of being sub'ected to (r. )ee Siew *hoh!s repeated

calls to the +overnment to resign... As to the +overnment having lost thecondence of the people on the merger, (r. lee appears to forget that merger

was one of the main points in the PAP platform when it was voted in power. As to

the argument that the type of merger suggested by the two +overnments is a

"sham", ...rest assured that we will re'ect it in the right time and through the

right way, namely by way of the referendum which is to come.!
