Sunday, February 8 at 3:00pm

Puddingstone first began as a trio, consisting of percussion,

hammered dulcimer, harp and flutes. It has grown to a 6-7 mem-

ber band and now includes vocals, guitar, synthesizer, and fiddle.

The name reflects them perfectly. Puddingstone is a conglomerate

of many different stones. The genres they plan range from Ameri-

can fife and drum to Celtic and folk, New Age, Flamenco, Renais-

sance and even Classical. They perform on a dazzling array of an-

cient and modern instruments including hurdy gurdy, gemshorns

and viola de gamba as well as electronic wind machines and drum

sets. The combination of the ancient and acoustic instruments

with the electronic instruments is what gives them their signature

sound. Puddingstone has been hailed as the “best kept secret in

North Carolina.” The group is led by David Abernathy, the brother

of Saint Luke member, JoAnn Lea.

United Methodist Men recent activities: UMM is continually working in various ways to promote and spread the message of hope that can be found only in Christ. Below are two recent examples of UMM in motion.

First, a Kairos Weekend prison ministry event was recently held at Hoke Correctional Institution, and Saint Luke UMM significantly helped in making this event happen in two significant ways. First, UMM donated generously to help cover the cost of the Weekend. Secondly, five UMM members served on the Weekend volunteer team. The Weekend was a great time in the Lord. We had 24 inmates attend the Weekend and the Lord ministered to all of us. The inmates learned that God is always there waiting on all of us to turn to Him for healing no matter what our past. Many of the inmates started this process during the Weekend. One of the inmates spoke about how information and encouragement provided during the Weekend propelled him to reach out to God concerning his sexual abuse suffered as a child. the inmate broke down and spoke about how the healing process had started and was already in full effect. This was a very emotional and Godly moment. Another inmate said almost nothing all weekend but during the closing ceremony finally opened up and spoke about how God was starting to work on him after years of depression and no hope. All of us learned that that doing God's will is not easy, but he never fails to support work for Him. As one of the staff

told the volunteer team when leaving Sunday night - if you spread God's word it will not come back empty.

Secondly, United Methodist Men provided approximately 40 Thanks for Giving Hams to needy citizens

Upcoming United Methodist Men events UMM is making plans for the annual Barbecue Sale – date to be announced. Please support this sale as it is our major fundraiser for the year. All 2015 funding requests will be presented during January 18 meeting for consideration. Please see a UMM member and provide this information. The United Methodist Men will meet on Sunday, January 18 at 7:30am. Come join us for a good breakfast, fellowship and short program. All men of the church are invited.

THANK YOU

Dear Saint Luke Church Family, Thanks for all the prayers, visits, cards, and to those who helped us out. Please keep Bob in your prayers as he continues to heal. Bob and Judy Caulder

OUTREACH -

A Big THANK YOU to all who participated in Christmas Cheer. Saint Luke

members made 7 families Christmas so much nicer than it would have been without

your generosity. You all are great.

If you are age 14 or older and are interested in helping others less fortunate

than you, how about a mission trip to Tennessee with the ASP team. The trip is

planned for June 22. If you are interested in going, see Harold or Bo Smith for more

information.

Happy New Year!!

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

Our UMW fall 2014 bazaar was again a successful one. The beautiful quilt has been sold, and the total amount raised, including the quilt is $3915. We have many mission projects for which the money will be used. Thanks to everyone who helped – the crafters, the bakers, and the buyers! Our circles will start meeting again Wednesday January 7. The Susan Lockey Seekers Circle at 10:00 a.m. and the Mary Harvin Discovery Circle at 6:15 p.m. The Tuesday crafters will meet again on January 13 at 10:00 a.m. We will finish up some craft items already in progress and make plans for the coming year.

50th Anniversary Approaching

50 years!! Mark your calendars one year in advance - Saint Luke will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Jan. 31, 2016. More details to come... Kudos! Ronnie Godfrey and Richard Cox collaborated to build the lovely new cabinets in the History/Prayer Room. Stop by and check out the new furniture and file cabinet. Missing from History/Prayer Room - one 8x8 photo book. Please return it if you have it. Thanks. Imagine No Malaria Update: Thanks to all who contributed during the Lovefeast. The total came to $1,208.00. To date, United Methodists have raised just over $64MM of our $75MM goal. Together, we can eliminate malaria.

YOUTH NEWS

I John 5:2-5

This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and

carrying out His commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep His com-

mands. And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of

God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the

world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one

who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

got resolutions?

The youth at Saint Luke are ambitious, competitive, loving, and very bent

on getting it done. Getting what done? As we begin this year, I pray that

all of us will put God first in EVERYTHING. Our Wednesday night study

has been on the holiness of God. A consistent relationship with Christ

turns hearts toward holiness and away from

the things of the world. A life of holiness

loves Christ above

all things, obeys

Him fully, and

abandons love of

the world.

Happy New Year Saints and Seniors of all ages!

It was back to Mullins, SC in November 2014 for dinner at Webster Manor and antique shopping. In an at-

tempt to down size, Carol bought a SMALL antique French chair. I really don’t think downsizing means small

furniture, do you?! Dannie transported it to Laurinburg - not quite small enough for Carol’s car. Alicia Krout

and her mom joined us and Dee and Kurt Heckert came up from their recent move to Myrtle Beach to join the

fun. Added to our usual shopping spree was a wonderful visit and guided tour of The Tobacco Factory - a

must for subsequent trips to Mullins.

Barrington House, a bed and breakfast and event center in Dunn, NC is scheduled for the 15th of this month

(sign up in gathering room) and the University at Pembroke Museum for February.

Prayers, candles and God’s blessings to all for a safe, happy and healthy 2015. Carol
