SOUND DESIGNER: BEN BURTT

WHO IS HE?

Ben Burtt is a sound designer who has worked on

various films. He is mainly know for working on sci-fi

films and has won four academy awards.

WHAT HAS HE WORKED ON

Ben Burtt is known for films such as Star Wars,

Indiana Jones, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, ET

and WALL-E. He created sounds for these films

and was even the voice of R2-D2 in the Star Wars

films and WALL-E in the film WALL-E.

WORKING ON STAR WARS

Ben Burtt is mostly famous for his work on Star Wars. His most notable

achievement being the hum of the lightsaber used in the films. To make

the sound of the lightsaber Burtt cleverly paired the sound of a film

projector and with the feedback from a broken television. He also

created the sound of Vaders breathing which was made by him recording

his own breathing into and old scuba regulator. The sounds you hear from

RD-D2 in the movies are actually produced by his voice and edited.
