Sound Definitions . Film sounds will be mixed carefully to ensure that important sounds are emphasized and that the correct atmosphere for a sequence is maintained. Selective Sound: Used to emphasize key sound elements within sequence. Ambient Sound: Used to create a particular atmosphere. Other elements of sound design to look out for: Sound Bridges: Used of sound to help transition between sequences. Sound Effects : Used to create a sense of realisation or impact. Sound can either be: Diegetic: This is sound that exists within the world of film. Source of sound is visable on the screen. Voice of the characters. Sounds made by objects in the story. Music represented as coming from instruments. It is everything you would expect to hear in the visable surroundings. Non Diegetic: It emerges from the outside of the world of film Narrates or the commentary. Sound effects which are added in for effect. Music/ soundtrack. Comes from a source outside the story space.
