Refurbishment of one of Sotheby’s auction galleries to provide new hardwood flooring, wall linings, fibrous plaster mouldings, hardwood joinery, display lighting, fire alarms and security.

The works included replacement of the structural floor to enhance loading, new roof finishes, central M&E plant and refurbishment of ancillary Basement storage accommodation and toilets.

The continuous auction programme dictated the works be carried out in the shortest programme without compromising quality. The gallery is surrounded by other operational galleries in constant use for displays and auctions necessitating restrictions on noisy operations.

Logistics and access were stringently controlled with all works under the close and constant supervision of Sotheby’s direct security.

With a demanding programme and no margin for overrun, a tight financial budget and very high quality parameters, project delivery was demanding.
