PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. It’sbeen a busy two weeks especially for ourYear 3 and Year 5 students who completedNAPLAN Online for the very first time. I mustfirstly acknowledge the work of Mr TrevorHinchliffe and Mrs Christine Byrne who havebeen working since Term 4 last year toensure the smooth implementation of this
assessment. Also, thank you to our Year 3 and Year 5 teacherswho prepared students so well for this new online assessment.Feedback from the students was that they enjoyed completingNAPLAN online. Well done to all involved.
It was such a pleasure visiting the Early Childhood team lastweek to be a part of their Mother’s Day celebration. Mums gotspoilt rotten and the afternoon tea was very fancy. I enjoyedhelping to serve afternoon tea to our Kindy Mums – it was lotsof fun!

School Painting Program
The Department of Education has funded the school to paintthe exterior of our buildings as part of their maintenanceprogram. The painting is likely to commence next week andmust be completed by the end of June. There will be workmenaround the school grounds for a few weeks so this will bemanaged carefully by the school. We are very fortunate to havethis funding and welcome this as additional beautification to ourschool.
Uniform Survey
There has been much discussion about the Sorrento PSuniform over the past couple of months. The P&C have puttogether an explanation and a survey for you to complete sothat you may have your say about the sports top, school shirtand the school logo. A hard copy has been sent home for youwith your child. I have also attached a copy for you in case ithas been misplaced. Please return this to the P&C box outsideof the uniform shop.
School Development Day 1st June
Next Friday 1st June is a pupil free day. Staff in schools fromthe Duncraig Network will be meeting at various schools -Hillary’s PS, South Padbury PS, Duncraig PS and GlengarryPS to collaboratively share Professional Learning opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers to meet colleaguesfrom neighbouring schools and share professional learning, knowledge and expertise.
Arriving and Leaving the School Grounds
Before School
A reminder the students should not be on the schoolgrounds before 8.15am. A number of students are arrivingat school before 8am. Please ensure your child is not leavinghome too early in the morning. Children are not supervisedat this time of the morning. Use of playgrounds or sportingequipment is NOT allowed before school, even under parentsupervision. This includes the K/P area.
After School
Please leave the school grounds promptly at the end ofeach day. Again students are not allowed to use theplaygrounds or sporting equipment after school even withparent supervision. This sends the wrong message to otherstudents, without parents present, and makes the rulesinconsistent and difficult to monitor.
I appreciate your support with these matters for the safety of allour students, parents and staff.
