9th EUA-CDE Annual Meeting

Doctoral Education: a dilemma of quality and quantity?

Hosted by Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain

16-17 June 2016

Prof. Annamaria Silvana de Rosa on behalf of the Sapienza

Council for Doctoral Education (Sapienza-CDE) has presented -

key notes from the contribution titled Mission, objectives and

recent initiatives from Sapienza-CDE. Some notes on Career

Development Plan as a strategic tool for timeline management

“within" and “ beyond" the doctorate.

The topic was transversally related to the conference program, and

in particular with the respect to:

• How best can doctoral candidates be supported to take

responsibility for their own career development?

• How can doctoral candidates be made aware of the skills they

develop while conducting research?

• What are good practices in collaborations with non-academic

partners?

Upcoming International Conference 2016

We are pleased to announce that the

Final Conference of the PRIDE project

”Professionals in Doctoral Education”

will take place in Berlin

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

from the 8th to 9th of September 2016,

Doctoral education has been undergoing a dramatic change in the last

decade in Europe. However, whereas the need for targeted investments in

the personal and professional development of PhD candidates, support

structures such as doctoral schools, and higher quality of scientific

supervision are widely accepted, a proper investment in the professional

development of administrative staff needed to support the overall

endeavor, is rather neglected. Thus the framework changed without taking

the needs of a professional administration fully into account.

The PRIDE project - funded by the European Commission DG EAC

through the Lifelong Learning Programme - aims at elaborating an

alternative approach to administration in the area of doctoral education.
