Sophomore Steps
Step 1: Know yourself Evaluate yourself- your interests, abilities, and work values.
Step 2: Explore options Gather information to consider career options that relate to
what you know about yourself.
Step 3: Make Plans / Take Action Consider issues that can affect your plans and take
appropriate actions to accomplish your goals.
How can you help your student?
Encourage your student to seek out assistance from their teachers and/or peers. Important year for their grade point average.
Support your student in developing a home study routine. Not just assigned homework.
Extra curricular: Get involved/become leaders Strong / deep commitment to a few activities is
preferred over minimal commitment to many.

Registration ConsiderationsBalancing Your Time
While high-school students average 35 hours per week of class time, college students log an average of 15 to 18 hours per week.
• Don’t Procrastinate• Will have to try different types of studying methods• Take time outside of class to teach yourself / read the material• Learn what is expected for the exam before the exam• Enlist the help of your fellow classmates and teacher
• Remember: Time is a huge factor for our students, balancing the number of Advanced Placement courses with your activities (sports, work, clubs) is the hardest part. Our students have the ability, but do they have the time?
