TODAY’S WEATHER HIGH: 69 LOW: 51 Sonny Beck, the CEO of Beck's Hybrids in Atlanta, was named the Business Leader of the Year at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's 27th Annual Awards Dinner, which took place on Tuesday. Beck, who has been with his family's company since 1964, has been an integral part of the continued success of Beck's Hybrids, which is the largest family-owned seed company in the United States. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce's website noted the inspirational messages at the company's operation, calling them "the driving force" behind the company. “I love the fields, the production side, but I’ve grown to love planning a lot," said Beck on the CoC website. "Your ability to analyze the whole problem and bring life experiences in – that can seem to not diminish. We’re growing fast enough that I keep giving jobs off to other people and my son now keeps giving jobs off to other people. But we keep thinking of new ideas we want to do. I’m always thinking about new projects.” A video about Sonny Beck produced by the Chamber can be viewed here . MacBeth and Inmon created "Edwin the Duck," an innovative children's learning toy that has multiple uses. Fishers received the Lifeline Data Centers Community of the Year award. together ldquo Author unknown Those of you familiar with the quote I

have used this weekmay have anindication of my topicThe past few monthswhen I have beenunavailable to writethis column Sweetiemy rescued dog hasdone the honorfocusing on nutritionand fitness for ourcanine familymembers I

sometimes hear from readers of my columnboth in person and by email but the Sweetiecolumns were by far the most popular

My plans to have Sweetie write a specialholiday column to address special needs forour pets during the holidays will not cometo fruition Sweetie left us about ten daysago leaving empty space in our hearts andour home As Sweetie had mentioned in aprevious column she came to us 11 yearsago at the age of 5 badly abused andwounded Two surgeries many scars andlots of rehab later she was a preciousaddition to our family through the yearsI cannot remember a time in my life when Idid not have at least one dog and there havebeen some very special furry friends butSweetie comes out on top in that categoryShe had a fun life after the bad time before

her rescue she was beside us when we werehome and traveled with us many times overthe years She admitted in her column thatshe was a ldquosenior citizenrdquo dog at the age of16 and though we knew her time was shortit is never easy to say goodbye

Sweetiersquos column this month was goingto address some important items toremember as we approach the holidaysamong those how important it is to makesure your pets both dogs and cats do nothave access to chocolate sugary or spicyfood items as well as non-food items whichmay smell enticing or interesting to themIf you have a natural Christmas tree whichrequires water do not let your pets drinkfrom that water as it can be dangerous forthem We all get very busy this time of yearand just as we all should not neglect ourfitness program we need to make sure ourpets also get the exercise and play time theyneed

Lastly I know that Sweetie wouldencourage you all to NOT provide a pet asa holiday gift for your loved ones If youbelieve that your person really wants a petcontact the humane society and purchase agift certificate for your person to meet andadopt a pet with whom they feel aconnection And most importantly pleasedo not purchase a pet ndash there are amazingdogs and cats desperately waiting for theirspecial home and are available throughshelters and rescue groups (We found outabout Sweetie through the American Eskimorescue group Heart Bandits) If you find

yourself in a situation that you must find aloving home for your dog or cat please becareful and completely research a pendingadopter Above all Readers please rescuendash the rewards for both rescuer and ldquorescueerdquoare great fun times lots of cuddles and loveand precious memories

Best wishes to you and yours thisThanksgiving Bruce and I are blessed andthankful for our years with Sweetie and hopeto see her running to greet us across thatRainbow Bridge someday

By KEITH L BEALLI know it seems like everyone and their

brother has an opinion on the election whatit means why it happened - and they feelthey must share it This is not one of thosearticles Itrsquos more about what the electionis supposed to be about ndash renewed hopeleadership and what we need to do as acountry to move forward to improve to dobetter Before I get into my particular viewsletrsquos get one thing out of the way I am oneof those darn ldquoin the aislerdquo types I look atthe candidate first and not what party she orhe is associated with I look at what theystand for and what ability they have to leadand govern If based on that you choosenot to read on that is your right and yourchoice but in my humble opinion that is alittle what is wrong with why our countryseems to be stuck these days We seem tobe so mired in the blame game ldquous againstthemrdquo and ldquozero sum gamersrdquo that wecannot look beyond to see what is reallyimportant

We need to stop looking only at theproblems and trying to find whose faultsomething is or isnrsquot and get to the key workat hand economic growth and developmentPut in a simpler way we need to rebuildhope opportunity and community We needour leaders to put their constituents ahead ofthemselves and know that there is greatbenefit to all in job security and creationgood community and general prosperity Ofcourse it is important for us to respect oneanother and truly and ultimately be theldquoUnitedrdquo States we claim to world to beHowever united does not mean we have toagree on everything but rather that weunderstand and agree that we need to cometogether and support a common purposecollectively and thoughtfully

This country was founded on hope andfostering opportunity Those seem to havebeen lost in all the rhetoric Respectfuldisagreement is fine and in fact is afoundation element for reasonablecompromise growth and innovation Butdisagreement should not be allowed to

expand so far as to overrun the discussionitself and become the blood sport it seemsto have evolved to in recent years I haveintentionally side-stepped raising theimportant considerations of protecting ourUnited States freedoms and liberties asthese seem to only be triggers to digress intothe aforementioned divisiveness In myopinion these are the fundamental no-brainer concepts all (should) support andshare regardless of your politicalpersuasions

It is time to stop and refocus on what wedo and should agree on Our responsibilitynow post-election as residents of theseUnited States is to encourage our newlyelected leadership to concentrate theircollective and representative efforts on howto rebuild hope and foster opportunities forthe citizens they represent Fundamentallythis means supporting and helping to creategood dependable jobs And an essentialfactor in getting a good job is having a goodeducation Every employer wants brightcreative and innovative employees Peoplewho cannot find good jobs cannot supportthemselves their families or theircommunities Letrsquos get back to creatinginnovating and building together Servicesector jobs are great but we cannot justprovide ldquoservicesrdquo to one another without

some core manufacturing and industrialstrengths Sadly those sectors and thebedrock jobs they provide have eroded at anever quickening pace over the last 30 yearsIt also leaves us subject to and beholden toothers in countries that have their own goalsand aspirations Yes I get there is a world-economy to consider but there must beprudent limits on that thinking too (seeldquorespectful disagreementrdquo discussionabove)

We have an obligation to care for ourown but we must not lose sight of ourobligations to others as well Blessings areto be shared not hoarded or squandered Inthis holiday season remember the lessonslearned by Ebenezer Scrooge Working hardwas not one of the lessons It will take hardwork respectful disagreement anddiscussion and ultimately compromise Theworld is watching Let us show them weunderstand that it is truly about workingwith and helping one another for united westand but divided we are doomed to fall

We needed a win we werent worriedwho was going to be on the floor for themTeague said We were just going to go outthere and compete Theyve got talentedplayers Kyrie Kevin Channing Frye theseguys have made big shots for them time aftertime

The Pacers took advantage of Jamesabsence in the early going Indiana reeledoff 11 unanswered points in the early stagesof the first quarter to open up a 15-7 leadThe hosts shot 571 percent from the field

in the opening frame and led by 11 after thefirst 12 minutes

Irving and Love mdash the Cavaliers othertwo All-Stars mdash mounted a charge in thesecond quarter Cleveland cut the deficit totwo on Loves 3-pointer with 711 remainingin the half

The Pacers responded with an 11-2 runto push the lead back to double digits butthe Cavaliers answered with 10 unansweredpoints mdash five of them from Love mdash to makeit a one-point game

together ldquo Author unknown Those of you familiar with the quote I

have used this weekmay have anindication of my topicThe past few monthswhen I have beenunavailable to writethis column Sweetiemy rescued dog hasdone the honorfocusing on nutritionand fitness for ourcanine familymembers I

sometimes hear from readers of my columnboth in person and by email but the Sweetiecolumns were by far the most popular

Best wishes to you and yours thisThanksgiving Bruce and I are blessed andthankful for our years with Sweetie and hopeto see her running to greet us across thatRainbow Bridge someday

brother has an opinion on the election whatit means why it happened - and they feelthey must share it This is not one of thosearticles Itrsquos more about what the electionis supposed to be about ndash renewed hopeleadership and what we need to do as acountry to move forward to improve to dobetter Before I get into my particular viewsletrsquos get one thing out of the way I am oneof those darn ldquoin the aislerdquo types I look atthe candidate first and not what party she orhe is associated with I look at what theystand for and what ability they have to leadand govern If based on that you choosenot to read on that is your right and yourchoice but in my humble opinion that is alittle what is wrong with why our countryseems to be stuck these days We seem tobe so mired in the blame game ldquous againstthemrdquo and ldquozero sum gamersrdquo that wecannot look beyond to see what is reallyimportant

We have an obligation to care for ourown but we must not lose sight of ourobligations to others as well Blessings areto be shared not hoarded or squandered Inthis holiday season remember the lessonslearned by Ebenezer Scrooge Working hardwas not one of the lessons It will take hardwork respectful disagreement anddiscussion and ultimately compromise Theworld is watching Let us show them weunderstand that it is truly about workingwith and helping one another for united westand but divided we are doomed to fall

in the opening frame and led by 11 after thefirst 12 minutes

The Pacers responded with an 11-2 runto push the lead back to double digits butthe Cavaliers answered with 10 unansweredpoints mdash five of them from Love mdash to makeit a one-point game

George stopped the bleeding with ajumper with 49 seconds left in the half andthen Turner scored in the post after an ImanShumpert turnover to give Indiana a five-point cushion heading into the break

together ldquo Author unknown Those of you familiar with the quote I

have used this weekmay have anindication of my topicThe past few monthswhen I have beenunavailable to writethis column Sweetiemy rescued dog hasdone the honorfocusing on nutritionand fitness for ourcanine familymembers I

sometimes hear from readers of my columnboth in person and by email but the Sweetiecolumns were by far the most popular

The ball swished through the netcapping a 9-0 run and sending the capacitycrowd at The Fieldhouse into hysterics

Our defense is allowing us to get into agood flow George said Every possessionwere not coming down to a loaded defenseThats helped give us some efficiency on theoffensive end

The news broke a few hours before thegame that the Cavaliers planned on restingJames against the Pacers It is the first gamethe four-time MVP has missed this seasonand comes on the second night of a back-to-back (the Cavs held off the Raptors inCleveland on Tuesday night before travelingto Indianapolis)

James has now been held out for rest inthree of the Cavaliers last five games atBankers Life Fieldhouse with all three ofthose contests falling on the latter half of aback-to-back

George stopped the bleeding with ajumper with 49 seconds left in the half andthen Turner scored in the post after an ImanShumpert turnover to give Indiana a five-point cushion heading into the break

have used this weekmay have anindication of my topicThe past few monthswhen I have beenunavailable to writethis column Sweetiemy rescued dog hasdone the honorfocusing on nutritionand fitness for ourcanine familymembers I

sometimes hear from readers of my columnboth in person and by email but the Sweetiecolumns were by far the most popular

First Paul George found a cutting CJMiles who drove to the hole and converteda tough two at the rim

After a Kyrie Irving miss on the otherend Miles returned the favor dishing toGeorge from the left wing When helprotated over George dumped the ball off toMyles Turner for an easy layup

After another miss by Irving JeffTeague and Thaddeus Young worked thepick-and-roll to perfection Teague drew theattention of both defenders as he weavedthrough the lane before dishing off to Youngfor another layup

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue took atimeout to try to stop the bleeding but thePacers werent finished The Cavs botcheda lob pass from Kevin Love to Irving out ofthe timeout and Teague scooped up the balland pushed the break finding Miles for anopen three at the top of the arc

The ball swished through the netcapping a 9-0 run and sending the capacitycrowd at The Fieldhouse into hysterics

Execution and defense Young saidabout the Pacers ability to stave off theCavaliers charge We forced Kyrie intosome tough opportunities We know hes atough shot maker but we definitely wantedhim to try to make those shots He missed afew and we were able to get out in transition

execute on offense and get some easybuckets

George recorded his first double-doubleof the season finishing with 21 points 11rebounds and five assists Teague added 20points and eight assists in the win whileYoung chipped in 16 points and sevenrebounds

George stopped the bleeding with ajumper with 49 seconds left in the half andthen Turner scored in the post after an ImanShumpert turnover to give Indiana a five-point cushion heading into the break
