SONNINGHILL HOSTEL BULLETIN A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Hostel life is about cherishing the moments you have - the friends you make, the sad times, the happy times and creating great memories. Being a Sonninghill old girl will always be a special part of who you are. To our parents - thank you for choosing Sonninghill Hostel for your daughter. We know it is not always easy to send your daughter away from home to live, and our staff will always work with you to ensure your daughter is well supported. On another note, I wish to advise you that we have changed our Hostel Prizegiving to Sunday, November 4th. Feedback last year showed that parents had to take time off work to pick up their daughters, and a large majority did not attend the senior academic prizegiving. A google survey will come out to you confirming whether you would like to have lunch (1.00pm) followed by prizegiving, or prizegiving (4.00pm) followed by dinner. We understand that Argyle House has their prizegiving that evening. A NOTE FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER Our team made a huge contribution behind the scenes at open day and all involved thoroughly enjoyed the event. Those attending seemed to enjoy the tour and observing our current students in action. Our design team is starting the preparation of the school magazine for 2018 and look forward to launching our new hostel bulletin in response to feedback from hostel parents and caregivers. Practice ExamsBoarders may go home if they do not have exams, or have 2-3 days between exams. However, they may still have internals that they can work on in study time. If staying at Hostel study periods are: 9.00am—11.00am and 1.00pm—3.00pm. Boarders must comply with Study Leave routines if staying at Hostel.

Hostel Set LeaveHostel closes at 5.30pm for Set Leave and opens Sunday 2 September at 5.00pm. Please ensure your daughter is picked up and dropped off in accordance with these times.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MESSAGE from Haydee Anson, Chelsea West, Pidgeon Kapea, Amber Perana and Ruthie Holmes

Every now and then we like to have some fun at Hostel. Our International Dinner was a huge success. Each year level was assigned a country and dressed for the occasion.

We are also planning some year level activities as we find these help each year level to bond well. It’s been a good year so far and we’re looking forward to getting Practice Exams out of the way.

BOARDING MANAGERS’ UPDATE - Helen Clarke, Leigh Hamilton, Tyler Wilkinson, Jo Hull

The girls are studying hard leading up to Practice Exams. Please assist your daughter to prepare herself by talking to her about managing anxiety, getting enough sleep and revising well ahead of exams. Please also ensure that she has sufficient stationery and a drink bottle to take into exams.

During Practice Exams any seniors who don’t have an exam may go home. However, they may still have internals that they can work on in study time. Hostel has a set study routine that boarders must follow to ensure safety and orderliness. We are encouraging seniors to pace themselves and talk to us about any concerns.
