Demon (antagonist)•The ‘demon witch’ being is represented as being very old which enhances its horrifying characteristics. The fact that light usually shines could signify death, also the use of the candle on the face creates a sense of horror.

Mid shot•A mid shot is used when the camera gradually moves nearer to the demon, showing its chest upwards.Close up •The use of a close up here shows that the demon like being is wearing a veil, meaning it is a woman. Close ups are also used to create a sense of claustrophobia which makes the audience feel unsettled and on the edge of their seats.

Sound•Non-Diegetic sounds (Classical music) This adds to the suspense and thrill of the opening title sequence as classical music is usually seen as calming, however in this case it is used to scare the audience.Mise En Scene•The scene is set in a dark house which adds to the feeling of horror and terror•There are props such as a teddy bear, a plastic horse and a lava lamp in the child’s room which gives the audience an understanding of the child’s innocence and naïveté.

CameraworkClose up•The scene begins with close ups on a girls hands whilst she creates a necklace for her mother, this is followed by a close up of her fathers hands working on soldering a computer chip.

Mid shot•The use of the mid shot creates a sense that the conversation is directed towards the audience. This is the beginning of the first equilibrium.

Over the shoulder shot•Shows the audience that the characters are speaking to each other.High angle shot•The camera looks down upon the young girl just as the her father goes to answer the door (shows vulnerability). Also a high angle shot when the robbers attack the father by kicking him on the ground (hopeless). The disruption of the equilibrium is when the father opens the door to find the intruder.
