Physical encounters with Yehovah or the Son of Yehovah

    Genesis 18-19

1 Now Yehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the

tent door in the heat of the day.

2 When he lifted up his eyes and looked, behold, three men were standing opposite

him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed

    himself to the earth,

3 and said, My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please do not pass

    your servant by.

4 Please let a little water be brought and wash your feet, and rest yourselves

    under the tree;

5 and I will bring a piece of bread, that you may refresh yourselves; after that you

may go on, since you have visited your servant. And they said, So do, as you

    have said.

33 As soon as He had finished speaking to Abraham Yehovah departed, and

    Abraham returned to his place.

1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening

    Genesis 22

11 But the angel of Yehovah called to him from heaven and said, Abraham,

Abraham! And he said, Here I am.

    12 He said, Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him;

for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only

    son, from Me.

Exodus 3 Yehovah appeared to Moses.

    2 The angel of Yehovah appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush;

and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not

    consumed.

3 So Moses said, I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the

    bush is not burned up.

4 When Yehovah saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the

midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses! And he said, Here I am.

5 Then He said, Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for

the place on which you are standing is holy ground.

    Joshua 6:14-7:1

14 He said, No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of Yehovah.

And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, What

has my lord to say to his servant?

15 The captain of the Yehovahs host said to Joshua, Remove your sandals from

your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy. And Joshua did so.

1 Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out and

    no one came in.

2 Yehovah said to Joshua, See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king

    and the valiant warriors.

    Judges 2:1

Now the angel of Yehovah came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And He said, I brought

    you up out of Egypt and led you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers;

and I said, I will never break My covenant with you.

    Judges 6

19 Then Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread from

an ephah of flour; he put the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, and brought

them out to him under the oak and presented them.

20 The angel of God said to him, Take the meat and the unleavened bread and

lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.

21 Then the angel of Yehovah put out the end of the staff that was in his hand

and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire sprang up from the rock

and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of Yehovah

    vanished from his sight.

22 When Gideon saw that he was the angel of Yehovah, he said, Alas, O Lord

Yehovah! For now I have seen the angel of Yehovah face to face.

    Ezekiel 1:26, 28

...and on that which resembled a throne, high up, was a figure with the

appearance of a man.... Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of

Yehovah. And when I saw it, I fell on my face...

    Divine angelic council of Yehovah

bar elah: son of the gods

    bara elohim: sons of God

    qadoshim: holy ones

    tsaba: host, army

sod: council, circle of confidants; counsel, confidential conversation

    Genesis 6:1-2

1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and

daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they

took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

    1 Kings 22:19-23

19 Micaiah said, Therefore, hear the word of Yehovah. I saw Yehovah sitting on

His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His

    left.

20 Yehovah said, Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And

one said this while another said that.

21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before Yehovah and said, I will entice

    him.

22 Yehovah said to him, How? And he said, I will go out and be a deceiving

spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. Then He said, You are to entice him and

also prevail. Go and do so.

23 Now therefore, behold, Yehovah has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all

these your prophets; and Yehovah has proclaimed disaster against you.

    Psalm 89:5-8

5 The heavens will praise Your wonders, O Yehovah; Your faithfulness also in the

    assembly of the holy ones.

6 For who in the skies is comparable to Yehovah? Who among the sons of the

    mighty is like Yehovah,

7 A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all

    those who are around Him?

8 O Yehovah God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty Yehovah?

    Psalm 148:2

Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts!

    Jeremiah 23:18, 22

18 But who has stood in the council of Yehovah that he should see and hear His

word? Who has given heed to His word and listened?

22 But if they had stood in My council, then they would have announced My words

to My people, and would have turned them back from their evil way And from the

    evil of their deeds.

    Daniel 3:25 (Aramaic)

He said, Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire

without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!

    Daniel 3:92 (Greek)

He said, Look! I see four men, who have been loosed, walking around in the fire,

and nothing has happened to them. And the appearance of the fourth is like an

    angel of God.

    Daniel 3:28 (Aramaic)

Nebuchadnezzar responded and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach

and Abed-nego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who put their

trust in Him, violating the king's command, and yielded up their bodies so as not

to serve or worship any god except their own God.

    Daniel 7:9-10

    I kept looking until thrones were set up, and the Ancient of Days took His seat;

His vesture was like white snow And the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne

was ablaze with flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A river of fire was flowing

and coming out from before Him; thousands upon thousands were attending Him,

and myriads upon myriads were standing before Him; the court sat, and the books

    were opened.

    Amos 3:7

Surely the Lord Yehovah does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His

    servants the prophets.

References to the Son of Yehovah in Scripture

    Psalm 2:7-12

1 Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together

against Yehovah and against His Anointed, saying,

3 Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!

4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them.

5 Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying,

6 But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.

7 I will surely tell of the decree of Yehovah: He said to Me, You are My Son, today

    I have begotten You.

8 Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very

ends of the earth as Your possession.

9 You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like

    earthenware.

10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; take warning, O judges of the

    earth.

11 Worship Yehovah with reverence and rejoice with trembling.

12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,

for His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

    Psalm 110

1 Yehovah says to my Lord: Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a

    footstool for Your feet.

2 Yehovah will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, Rule in the

    midst of Your enemies.

3 Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power; in holy array, from

the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.

3 [Greek Old Testament] With you is dominion in the day of your power, in the

splendors of Your saints: I have begotten You from the womb before the morning.

4 Yehovah has sworn and will not change His mind, You are a priest forever

according to the order of Melchizedek.1

5 The Lord is at Your right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath.

6 He will judge among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter

the chief men over a broad country.

7 He will drink from the brook by the wayside; therefore He will lift up His head.

    Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child

and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.2

    Matthew 1

22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the

    prophet:

23 Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son, and they shall call

his name Immanuel, which translated means, God with us.

Isaiah 9:6-7 The Messiah will be both God and man.

6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will

rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty

God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne

of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and

righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of Yehovah of hosts will

    accomplish this.

    Daniel 7:13-14

13 I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven one

like a Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was

    presented before Him.

14 And to Him was given dominion, glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples,

nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an

everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will

    not be destroyed.

    Micah 5:2

But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah,

from you one will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from

long ago, from the days of eternity.

    John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God (the Father), and

    the Word was God (Deity).

2 He was in the beginning with God (the Father).

3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into

being that has come into being.

4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory

as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, This was He of whom I said,

He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.

18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom

of the Father, He has explained Him.

    John 3:16-18

16 For God so loved the world in that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever

believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the

world might be saved through Him.

18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged

already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

    Colossians 1:15

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible

and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities all things

have been created through Him and for Him.

17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

    Hebrews 1:1-4

1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions

    and in many ways,

2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all

things, through whom also He made the world.

3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature,

and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification

of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more

    excellent name than they.

[And it will be proclaimed at] the end of days concerning the captives as [He said,

to proclaim liberty to the captives. Its interpretation is that He] will assign them

to the Sons of Heaven and to the inheritance of Melchizedek; f[or He will cast]

their [lot] amid the po[rtions of Melchize]dek, who will return them there and will

proclaim to them, will proclaim to them liberty, forgiving them [the wrong-doings]

of all their iniquities. And the Day of Atonement is the e[nd of the] tenth [Ju]bilee,

when all the Sons of [Light] and the men of the lot of Mel[chi]zedek will be atoned

for.3 [And] a statute concerns them [to prov]ide them with their rewards. For this

is the moment of the Year of Grace for Melchizedek. [And h]e will, by his strength,

judge the holy ones of God, executing judgment as it is written concerning him in

the Songs of David, who said, God has taken his place in the divine council; in the

midst of the gods he holds judgment.... And Melchizedek will avenge the

vengeance of the judgments of God.... and he will drag [them from the hand of]

    Belial.

The War Scroll chapter 17 (cf. Daniel 12:1-2, 1 Thessalonians 4:16)

Be strong and fear not; [for they tend] towards chaos and confusion, and they

lean on that which is not and [shall not be. To the God] of Israel belongs all that

is and shall be; [He knows] all the happenings of eternity. This is the day appointed

by Him for the defeat and overthrow of the Prince of the kingdom of wickedness,

and He will send eternal relief to the company of His redeemed by the might of

the princely Angel of the kingdom of Michael. With everlasting light He will

enlighten with joy [the children] of Israel; peace and blessing shall be with the

company of God. He will raise up the kingdom of Michael in the midst of the gods,

and the realm of Israel in the midst of all flesh. Righteousness shall rejoice on

high, and all the children of His truth shall jubilate in eternal knowledge. And you,

the sons of His Covenant, be strong in the ordeal of God! His mysteries shall

uphold you until He moves His hand for His trials to come to an end.

    Enoch 38

1 When the congregation of the righteous shall appear, and sinners shall be judged

for their sins, and shall be driven from the face of the earth:

2 And when the Righteous One shall appear before the eyes of the righteous,

whose elect works hang upon the Lord of Spirits, and light shall appear to the

righteous and the elect who dwell on the earth, where then will be the dwelling of

the sinners, and where the resting-place of those who have denied the Lord of

Spirits? It had been good for them if they had not been born.4

3 When the secrets of the righteous shall be revealed and the sinners judged, and

the godless driven from the presence of the righteous and elect,

3 10 Jubilees = 490 years; compare with Daniels prophecy of 490 years from Cyrus decree to rebuild the Temple to the coming of the Messiah 4 Jeremiah 20:14; Matthew 26:24; Mark 14:21

4 From that time those that possess the earth shall no longer be powerful and

exalted: And they shall not be able to behold the face of the holy, for the Lord of

Spirits has caused His light to appear on the face of the holy, righteous, and elect.5

5 Then shall the kings and the mighty perish and be given into the hands of the

    righteous and holy.

6 And from that time onward none shall seek for themselves mercy from the Lord

of Spirits. For their life is at an end.

    Enoch 39

5 Here my eyes saw their dwellings with His righteous angels, and their resting-

places with the holy. And they petitioned and interceded and prayed for the

children of men, and righteousness flowed before them as water, and mercy like

dew upon the earth: thus it is amongst them for ever and ever.

6 And in that place my eyes saw the Elect One of righteousness and of faith, and

I saw His dwelling-place under the wings of the Lord of Spirits. And righteousness

shall prevail in His days, and the righteous and elect shall be without number

before Him for ever and ever.

7 And all the righteous and elect before Him shall be strong as fiery lights,6 and

their mouths shall be full of blessing, and their lips extol the name of the Lord of

Spirits, and righteousness before Him shall never fail.7

    Enoch 40

1 And after that I saw thousands of thousands and ten thousand times ten

thousand, I saw a multitude beyond number and reckoning, who stood before the

    Lord of Spirits.8

2 And on the four sides of the Lord of Spirits I saw four presences, different from

those that sleep not, and I learnt their names: for the angel that went with me

made known to me their names, and showed me all the hidden things.

3 And I heard the voices of those four presences as they uttered praises before

    the Lord of glory.

4 The first voice blesses the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.

5 And the second voice I heard blessing the Elect One and the elect ones who

hang upon the Lord of Spirits.

6 And the third voice I heard pray and intercede for those who dwell on the earth

and supplicate in the name of the Lord of Spirits.

7 And I heard the fourth voice fending off the Satans and forbidding them to come

before the Lord of Spirits to accuse them who dwell on the earth.

8 After that I asked the angel of peace who went with me, who showed me

everything that is hidden: Who are these four presences which I have seen and

whose words I have heard and written down?

9 And he said to me: This first is Michael, the merciful and long-suffering: and

the second, who is set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of

men, is Raphael: and the third, who is set over all the powers, is Gabriel: and the

fourth, who is set over the repentance unto hope of those who inherit eternal life,

    is named Phanuel.9

10 And these are the four angels of the Lord of Spirits and the four voices I heard

    in those days.

    Enoch 45

1 And this is the second Parable concerning those who deny the name of the

dwelling of the holy ones and the Lord of Spirits,

2 And into the heaven they shall not ascend, and on the earth they shall not come:

such shall be the lot of the sinners who have denied the name of the Lord of Spirit,

who are thus preserved for the day of suffering and tribulation.

3 On that day My Elect One shall sit on the throne of glory and shall try their

works,10 and their places of rest shall be innumerable. And their souls shall grow

strong within them when they see My elect ones, and those who have called upon

    My glorious name:

4 Then will I cause My Elect One to dwell among them. And I will transform the

heaven and make it an eternal blessing and light.11

5 And I will transform the earth and make it a blessing: and I will cause my elect

ones to dwell upon it: but the sinners and evil-doers shall not set foot thereon.

6 For I have provided and satisfied with peace My righteous ones and have caused

them to dwell before Me: but for the sinners there is judgment impending with

Me, so that I shall destroy them from the face of the earth.12

    Enoch 46

1 And there I saw beheld the Ancient of Days and His head was white like wool,13

and with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a

man, and His face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels.

2 And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things,

concerning the Son of Man who He was, and whence He was, and why He went

    with the Ancient of Days.

3 And he answered and said unto me: this is the Son of Man who has

righteousness, with whom dwells righteousness, and who reveals all the treasures

of that which is hidden, because the Lord of Spirits has chosen Him, and whose

lot has the preeminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness forever.14

4 And this Son of Man whom you have seen shall raise up the kings and the mighty

from their seats, and the strong from their thrones and shall loosen the reins of

the strong, and break the teeth of the sinners.15

5 And He shall put down the kings from their thrones and kingdoms because they

do not extol and praise Him nor humbly acknowledge from whence their kingdom

    was bestowed upon them.

6 And He shall put down the countenance of the strong, and shall fill them with

shame. And darkness shall be their dwelling, and worms shall be their bed,16 and

they shall have no hope of rising from their beds, because they do not extol the

name of the Lord of Spirits.

7 And these are they who judge the stars of heaven,17 and raise their hands

against the Most High and tread upon the earth and they that dwell upon it. And

all their deeds manifest unrighteousness, and their power rests upon their riches,

and their faith is in the gods which they have made with their hands, and they

deny the name of the Lord of Spirits.

8 And they persecute the houses of His congregations, and the faithful who hang

upon the name of the Lord of Spirits.

    Enoch 48

1 And in that place I saw the fountain of righteousness which was inexhaustible:

and around it were many fountains of wisdom: and all the thirsty drank of them,

and were filled with wisdom, and their dwellings were with the righteous and holy

    and elect.18

2 And at that hour the Son of Man was named in the presence of the Lord of

Spirits, and His name before the Ancient of Days.

3 Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of the heaven

were made, His name was named before the Lord of Spirits.19

4 He shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall, and

He shall be the light of the Gentiles,20 and the hope of those who are troubled of

    heart.

5 All who dwell on earth shall fall down and worship before Him and will praise

and bless and celebrate with song the Lord of Spirits.

6 And for this reason has He been chosen and hidden before Him before the

creation of the world and for evermore.

7 And the wisdom of the Lord of Spirits has revealed Him to the holy and

    righteous21;

the name of the Lord of Spirits for in His name they are saved,22 and according to

His good pleasure has it been in regard to their life.23

8 In these days downcast in countenance shall the kings of the earth have become,

and the strong who possess the land because of the works of their hands, for on

the day of their anguish and affliction they shall not be able to save themselves.

9 And I will give them over into the hands of My elect: as straw in the fire so shall

they burn before the face of the holy: as lead in the water shall they sink before

the face of the righteous, and no trace of them shall any more be found.

10 And on the day of their affliction there shall be rest on the earth, and before

them they shall fall and not rise again: and there shall be no one to take them

with his hands and raise them: for they have denied the Lord of Spirits and His

Anointed, the name of the Lord of Spirits be blessed.24

    Enoch 49

1 For wisdom is poured out like water, and glory fails not before Him for evermore.

2 For He is mighty in all the secrets of righteousness, and unrighteousness shall

disappear as a shadow, and have no continuance; because the Elect One stands

before the Lord of Spirits and His glory is for ever and ever, and His might unto

    all generations.

3 And in Him dwells the spirit of wisdom, and the spirit which gives insight, and

the spirit of understanding and of might,25 and the spirit of those who have fallen

    asleep in righteousness.26

4 And He shall judge the secret things, and none shall be able to utter a lying word

before Him for He is the Elect One before the Lord of Spirits according to His good

    pleasure.

    Enoch 51

1 And in those days shall the earth also give back that which has been entrusted

to it, and Sheol also shall give back that which it has received, and hell shall give

back that which it owes.27 For in those days the Elect One shall arise.

2 And He shall choose the righteous and holy from among them: for the day has

drawn near that they should be saved.

3 And the Elect One shall in those days sit on My throne,28 and His mouth shall

pour forth all the secrets of wisdom and counsel: for the Lord of Spirits has given

them to Him and has glorified Him.29

4 And in those days shall the mountains leap like rams, and the hills also shall

skip like lambs satisfied with milk,30 and the faces of all the angels in heaven shall

    be lit up with joy.

5 And the earth shall rejoice, and the righteous shall dwell upon it, and the elect

    shall walk thereon.

    Enoch 52

1 And after those days in that place where I had seen all the visions of that which

is hidden for I had been carried off in a whirlwind and they had borne me towards

    the west.

2 There my eyes saw all the secret things of heaven that shall be, a mountain of

iron, and a mountain of copper, and a mountain of silver, and a mountain of gold,

and a mountain of soft metal, and a mountain of lead.31

3 And I asked the angel who went with me, saying, What things are these which

    I have seen in secret?

4 And he said unto me: All these things which you have seen shall serve the

dominion of His Anointed that He may be potent and mighty on the earth.

5 And that angel of peace answered, saying unto me, Wait a little, and there shall

be revealed unto you all the secret things which surround the Lord of Spirits.

6 And these mountains which thine eyes have seen, the mountain of iron, and the

mountain of copper, and the mountain of silver, and the mountain of gold, and

the mountain of soft metal, and the mountain of lead, all these shall be in the

presence of the Elect One as wax: before the fire,32 and like the water which

streams down from above [upon those mountains], and they shall become

    powerless before His feet.

7 And it shall come to pass in those days that none shall be saved, either by gold

or by silver, and none will be able to escape.

8 And there shall be no iron for war, nor shall one clothe oneself with a breastplate.

Bronze shall be of no service, and tin shall be of no service and shall not be

esteemed, and lead shall not be desired.

9 And all these things shall be denied and destroyed from the surface of the earth,

when the Elect One shall appear before the face of the Lord of Spirits.

    Enoch 53

1 There mine eyes saw a deep valley with open mouths, and all who dwell on the

earth and sea and islands shall bring to him gifts and presents and tokens of

homage, but that deep valley shall not become full.33

2 And their hands commit lawless deeds, and the sinners devour all whom they

lawlessly oppress: yet the sinners shall be destroyed before the face of the Lord

of Spirits, and they shall be banished from off the face of His earth, and they shall

    perish forever and ever.

3 For I saw all the angels of punishment abiding (there) and preparing all the

    instruments of Satan.

    4. And I asked the angel of peace who went with me: For whom are they

    preparing these instruments?

    5. And he said unto me: They prepare these for the kings and the mighty of this

earth, that they may thereby be destroyed.

6 And after this the Righteous and Elect One shall cause the house of his

congregation to appear: henceforth they shall be no more hindered in the name

    of the Lord of Spirits.

7 And these mountains shall not stand as the earth before His righteousness, but

the hills shall be as a fountain of water, and the righteous shall have rest from the

    oppression of sinners.

    Enoch 61

1 And I saw in those days how long cords were given to those angels, and they

took to themselves wings and flew, and they went towards the north.

2 And I asked the angel, saying unto him: Why have those (angels) taken these

cords and gone off? And he said unto me: They have gone to measure.

3 And the angel who went with me said unto me: These shall bring the measures

of the righteous, and the ropes of the righteous to the righteous, that they may

stay themselves on the name of the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.

4 The elect shall begin to dwell with the elect, and those are the measures which

shall be given to faith and which shall strengthen righteousness.

5 And these measures shall reveal all the secrets of the depths of the earth, and

those who have been destroyed by the desert, and those who have been devoured

by the beasts, and those who have been devoured by the fish of the sea, that they

may return and stay themselves on the day of the Elect One for none shall be

destroyed before the Lord of Spirits and none can be destroyed.

6 And all who dwell above in the heaven received a command and power and one

voice and one light like unto fire.

7 And that One (with) their first words they blessed, and extolled and lauded with

wisdom, and they were wise in utterance and in the spirit of life.

8 And the Lord of Spirits placed the Elect One on the throne of glory. And He shall

judge all the works of the holy above in the heaven, and in the balance shall their

    deeds be weighed

9 And when He shall lift up His countenance to judge their secret ways according

to the word of the name of the Lord of Spirits and their path according to the way

of the righteous judgment of the Lord of Spirits. Then shall they all with one voice

speak and bless, and glorify and extol and sanctify the name of the Lord of Spirits.

10 And He will summon all the host of the heavens, and all the holy ones above,

and the host of God, the Cherubim, Seraphim and Ophannim,34 and all the angels

34 Cherub (): a spirit represented by images in the Temple and at the Ark of the Covenant. Seraph ( ): a spirit like a flying serpent. Ophan (): a spirit that appears to move as a wheel

of power, and all the angels of principalities, and the Elect One and the other

powers on the earth and over the water.

11 On that day shall raise one voice, and bless and glorify and exalt in the spirit

of faith, and in the spirit of wisdom, and in the spirit of patience, and in the spirit

of mercy, and in the spirit of judgment and of peace, and in the spirit of goodness,

and shall all say with one voice: Blessed is He, and may the name of the Lord of

Spirits be blessed for ever and ever.

12 All who sleep not above in heaven shall bless Him all the holy ones who are in

heaven shall bless Him and all the elect who dwell in the garden of life: and every

spirit of light who is able to bless, and glorify, and extol, and hallow Your blessed

name, and all flesh shall beyond measure glorify and bless Your name for ever

    and ever:

13 For great is the mercy of the Lord of Spirits, and He is long-suffering, and all

His works and all that He has created He has revealed to the righteous and elect

in the name of the Lord of Spirits.

    Enoch 62

1 And thus the Lord commanded the kings and the mighty and the exalted, and

those who dwell on the earth, and said: Open your eyes and lift up your horns if

you are able to recognize the Elect One

2 And the Lord of Spirits seated Him on the throne of His glory, and the spirit of

righteousness was poured out upon Him and the word of His mouth slays all the

sinners, and all the unrighteous are destroyed from before His face.35

3 And there shall stand up in that day all the kings and the mighty, and the exalted

and those who hold the earth, and they shall see and recognize how He sits on

the throne of His glory, and righteousness is judged before Him, and no lying word

    is spoken before Him.

4 Then shall pain come upon them as on a woman in travail, and she has pain in

bringing forth when her child enters the mouth of the womb, and she has pain in

    bringing forth.36

5 And one portion of them shall look on the other, and they shall be terrified, and

they shall be downcast of countenance, and pain shall seize them, when they see

that Son of Man sitting on the throne of His glory.37

6 And the kings and the mighty and all who possess the earth shall bless and

glorify and extol Him who rules over all, who was hidden.38

7 For from the beginning the Son of Man was hidden and the Most High preserved

Him in the presence of His might, and revealed Him to the elect.

8 And the congregation of the elect and holy shall be sown, and all the elect shall

stand before Him on that day.

9 And all the kings and the mighty and the exalted and those who rule the earth

shall fall down before Him on their faces, and worship and set their hope upon

that Son of Man and petition Him and supplicate for mercy at His hands.39

10 Nevertheless that Lord of Spirits will so press them that they shall heavily go

forth from His presence, and their faces shall be filled with shame, and the

darkness grow deeper on their faces.40

11 And He will deliver them to the angels for punishment, to execute vengeance

on them because they have oppressed His children and His elect.

12 And they shall be a spectacle for the righteous and for His elect: they shall

rejoice over them, because the wrath of the Lord of Spirits rests upon them, and

His sword is drunk with their blood. 41

13 And the righteous and elect shall be saved on that day, and they shall never

from that time onward see the face of the sinners and the unrighteous.42

14 And the Lord of Spirits will abide over them, and with that Son of Man shall

they eat and lie down and rise up for ever and ever.43

15 And the righteous and elect shall have risen from the earth,44 and ceased to be

of downcast countenance.45 And they shall have been clothed with garments of

    glory.46

16 And these shall be the garments of life from the Lord of Spirits and your

garments shall not grow old, nor your glory pass away before the Lord of Spirits.

    Enoch 63

1 In those days shall the mighty and the kings who possess the earth implore Him

to grant them a little respite from His angels of punishment to whom they were

delivered, that they might fall down and worship before the Lord of Spirits and

    confess their sins before Him.

10 Now they shall say unto themselves: Our souls are full of unrighteous gain,

but it does not prevent us from descending from the midst thereof into the burden

    of Sheol.

11 And after that their faces shall be filled with darkness and shame before that

Son of Man and they shall be driven from His presence, and the sword shall abide

before His face in their midst.

12 Thus spoke the Lord of Spirits, This is the ordinance and judgment with respect

to the mighty and the kings and the exalted and those who possess the earth

    before the Lord of Spirits.

Enoch 69 Regarding the evil angels search for power by using the name

of the Son of God in the same invocation that the Son of God Himself used

    to create the universe

14 This [angel] requested Michael to show him the hidden name, so that he might

enunciate it in the oath, so that those might quake before that name and oath

who revealed all that was in secret to the children of men.

15 And this is the power of this oath, for it is powerful and strong, and he placed

this oath [called] Akae in the hand of Michael.

16 And these are the secrets of this oath. And they are strong through his oath:

And the heaven was suspended before the world was created, and forever.

17 And through it the earth was founded upon the water, and from the secret

recesses of the mountains come beautiful waters, from the creation of the world

    and unto eternity.

18 And through that oath the sea was created, and as its foundation He set for it

the sand against the time of [its] anger, and it dare not pass beyond it from the

creation of the world unto eternity.

19 And through that oath are the depths made fast, and abide and stir not from

their place from eternity to eternity.

20 And through that oath the sun and moon complete their course, and deviate

not from their ordinance from eternity to eternity.

21 And through that oath the stars complete their course, and He calls them by

their names, and they answer Him from eternity to eternity.

22 And in like manner the spirits of the water, and of the winds, and of all zephyrs,

and (their) paths from all the quarters of the winds.

23 And there are preserved the voices of the thunder and the light of the lightings:

and there are preserved the chambers of the hail and the chambers of the

hoarfrost, and the chambers of the mist, and the chambers of the rain and the

    dew.

24 And all these believe and give thanks before the Lord of Spirits, and glorify

[Him] with all their power, and their food is in every act of thanksgiving: they

thank and glorify and extol the name of the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.

25 And this oath is mighty over them and through it they are preserved and their

paths are preserved, and their course is not destroyed.

26 And there was great joy amongst them, and they blessed and glorified and

extolled because the name of that Son of Man had been revealed unto them.

27 And He sat on the throne of His glory, and the sum of judgment was given unto

the Son of Man, and he caused the sinners to pass away and be destroyed from

off the face of the earth, and those who have led the world astray.

28 With chains shall they be bound, and in their assemblage-place of destruction

shall they be imprisoned, and all their works vanish from the face of the earth.

29 And from this time onward there shall be nothing corruptible; for that Son of

Man has appeared, and has seated Himself on the throne of His glory, and all evil

shall pass away before His face, and the word of that Son of Man shall go forth

and be strong before the Lord of Spirits.

    Enoch 70

1 And it came to pass after this that his name [Enoch] during his lifetime was

raised aloft to that Son of Man and to the Lord of Spirits from amongst those who

    dwell on the earth.

2 And He was raised aloft on the chariots of the spirit and his name vanished

    among them.47

3 And from that day I was no longer numbered amongst them and he set me

between the two winds, between the North and the West, where the angels took

the cords to measure for me the place for the elect and righteous.

4 And there I saw the first fathers and the righteous who from the beginning dwell

    in that place.

    Enoch 71

8 And I saw angels who could not be counted, a thousand thousands, and ten

thousand times ten thousand, encircling that house. And Michael, and Raphael,

and Gabriel, and Phanuel, and the holy angels who are above the heavens, go in

    and out of that house.

9 And they came forth from that house, and Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and

Phanuel, and many holy angels without number.

10 And with them the Head of Days, His head white and pure as wool, and His

    raiment indescribable.48

11 And I fell on my face, and my whole body became relaxed, and my spirit was

transfigured; and I cried with a loud voice with the spirit of power, and blessed

    and glorified and extolled.

12 And these blessings which went forth out of my mouth were well-pleasing

    before that Head of Days.

13 And that Head of Days came with Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel,

thousands and ten thousands of angels without number.

[Lost fragment: Enoch asks about one person that he saw with the Head of Days.]

14 And he [an angel] came to me and greeted me with his voice, and said unto

me: This is the Son of Man who is born unto righteousness, and righteousness

abides over Him, and the righteousness of the Head of Days forsakes Him not.

15 And he said unto me: He proclaims unto you peace in the name of the world

to come; for from hence has proceeded peace since the creation of the world, and

so shall it be unto you forever and forever and ever.

16 And all shall walk in His ways since righteousness never forsakes Him. With

Him will be their dwelling-places, and with Him their heritage, and they shall not

be separated from Him forever and ever and ever. And so there shall be length of

days with that Son of Man, and the righteous shall have peace and an upright way

in the name of the Lord of Spirits forever and ever.

    Enoch 105

1 In those days the Lord bade them to summon and testify to the children of earth

concerning their wisdom: show it unto them; for you are their guides, and a

    recompense over the whole earth.

2 For I and My Son will be united with them forever in the paths of uprightness in

their lives; and you shall have peace: rejoice, you children of uprightness. Amen.

    Isaiah 52:13-53:12

13 Behold, My servant will prosper, He will be high and lifted up and greatly

    exalted.49

14 Just as many were astonished at you, so His appearance was marred more

than any man and His form more than the sons of men.

15 Thus He will sprinkle many nations, kings will shut their mouths on account of

Him; for what had not been told them they will see, and what they had not heard

    they will understand.50

1 Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of Yehovah been

    revealed?51

2 For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched

ground;52 He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor

appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

3 He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with

grief; and like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did

    not esteem Him.53

4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves

esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our

iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging

    we are healed.54

6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but

Yehovah has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.

7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; like a

lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so

He did not open His mouth.

8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who

considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression

of my people, to whom the stroke was due?

9 His grave was assigned with wicked men, yet He was with a rich man in His

death, because He had done no violence, nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

    49 John 12:32-34; Acts 1:9 50 Zechariah 12:10; Ephesians 2:13 51 John 12:37-38 52 Isaiah 11:10; Romans 15:12 53 Psalm 22:6; 54 Zechariah 12:10

10 But Yehovah was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief; if He would render

Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and

the good pleasure of Yehovah will prosper in His hand.

11 As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; by His

knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, as He will bear

    their iniquities.

12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty

with the strong; because He poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with

the transgressors; yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the

    transgressors.
