SP2010 Lets you switch user identity interactivelySP2013 Removes this capability (exactly why is open to debate)

But as any developer will tell you it’s an indispensable feature when testingSo we put it back!

Something Borrowed

It’s borrowed because it’s just linking to an existing application page

Kaboodle Image Slide Shower (KISS)Yet another Image Rotator - just what the world needs!Well yes actually:• If you want one that works with SharePoint Online• That uses HTML 5 only (no reliance on JavaScript libraries)• That has dynamic content that is pulled from SharePoint lists• That links to external content and documents• That can cache data so that it will work with anonymous users• That uses the SP2013 call out framework• That can auto rotate on a schedule or user click or both• That can exploit hundreds of transitions and fades• Oh, and its totally free (or will be)!

Something Old

It’s an Ad Rotator but not as we know it

Page 8: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

Yes, KISS is another image rotator but one that’s driven my SharePoint list data fieldsIt’s HTML 5 not JQuery but that means that a modern browser is needed, IE9+ It’s SP2013 only and was specifically designed for operation with public facing website in SPO It’s not released yet but when it is it will be completely freeIf anyone is interested in trialling the beta please let me know

Wikis: The Good the Bad and the Ugly(Wikis in general and SharePoint Wikis Specifically)The Good• Quick and ready

access• Easy search• Easy cross linking• Decentralised

authorship• More dynamic• Great for tacit

knowledge

The Bad• Got to learn the

syntax• Easy to change

means easy to make errors

• Cross linking within the same library only

• OOTB no self cross referencing

• OOTB no TOC• Decentralised

authorship might not fit with the business culture

The Ugly• The authoring

experience is disappointing

• Too often the need to hand craft HTML

• Importing existing content is just plain nasty

• Need to upload (or otherwise make linkable embedded content e.g. images)

Page 14: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

Wikis: Conclusions(Wikis in general and SharePoint Wikis Specifically)

• Don’t take on a battle you cannot win!• Let users create content using tools they

are comfortable with (meaning Word for the most part)

• Make it a technical problem not the user’s problem

• If the wiki is for content presentation make it read only – although comments and feedback is cool

• Make the wiki self generating

AMS The OOTB navigation elements can sometimes be rather restrictiveNo global navigation, even the new MMS driven navigation is limited to the site collectionWeb site navigation limitations• Left navigation width issues• Tree node issues• No control over tree view• Quick links is only 2 levelsDelegate controls are the a super cool way of replacing the OOTB controls you don’t like with ones that you do likeDeployed as a Feature and so can be switched on or off as neededZero impact on the master page
