In 2009, an estimated 21.8 million Americans aged 12 or older were current (past month) illicit drug users, meaning they had used an illicit drug during themonth prior to the survey interview. This estimate represents 8.7 percent of the population aged 12 or older. Illicit drugs include marijuana/ hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used nonmedically.

- (Current Drug Use Statistics in America (Drug-Free Alliance)

The list of illegal drugs are long and the effects of these drugs are destroying the lives of millions of people...

“There is no doubt that in the majority (85%) of cases where abuse/neglect of children takes place, one or both parents are using alcohol / drugs Including the abuse and misuse of prescription medication. The effects of a child being removed from the home are far reaching and perhaps may never fully be known. Children who see their parents use alcohol/drugs are more likely to become users themselves. The effects of alcohol/

drugs on an individual are tragic often leading to homelessness, poverty, criminal activity, suicide, homicide, theft, domestic violence

and abuse/ neglect of children including fatality. “ - (Donnie Oliver MSW Social Service Clinician

Friend, we face real problems, and we need to know / be reminded about...

Romans 13:1-4 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.4 For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.

This may be an elementary point, but God’ people are to be law-abiding people!

God holds His people accountable to obey and uphold the civil law as long as it does not violate God’s law!

If we are guilty of the manufacturing, or trafficking of illegal / prescription drugs we have sinned!

Ephesians 4:28 - Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

God’s people work to provide for themselves, their families, the local church and those who are not able to provide for themselves.

Illegal and illegitimate drug use is extremely expensive and robs one’s family, the local church, and the needy from it’s intended use.

It may be a simple point, but remember God will hold us accountable for our stewardship, - (Matthew 25:14-30).

I John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

God’s people work hard to abstain from the things of the world. In fact, they are careful to be a positive effect...

God wants us to effect the world in which we live, not the world to effect us!

I Thessalonians 5:5-7 - You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.

God’s people are to be alert and aware of the things around them, not like those Paul describes as “DRUNK!”

The effects of alcohol / drugs have caused many people to do many things they regretted! - (Proverbs 23:29-35).

I Corinthians 3:16-17 - Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

God’s people are the Temple of God, and God wants us to respect that Temple!

The abuse of drugs are a great harm to the body!

Drugs have no mercy they will take you farther, keep you longer, cost you more than you want to pay!

If you think If you think drugs want drugs want hurt you, hurt you, look at melook at me

I Corinthians 6:9-10 - Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

The use and abuse of alcohol / drugs do not create a concern / desire for holiness; they create an indifference toward it!
