5 SATURDAY NOVEMBER 17 2012 www.ulsterscotsagency.com Ulster- Scot the Ballywalter Game and Country Fair (May 5) - The Agency brought an Ulster-Scots element to the day by providing a showcase of traditional music to the crowd of 17,000. • Lisburn City Council’s Mayor’s Family Fun Day (May 12) - a joint showcase of music and dance. Balmoral Show (May 16-18) - The North South Language Board had a joint marketing exhibition space at the show, and the Agency showcased a range of Ulster-Scots cultural activity. • Northern Ireland Countryside Festival, Moira Demesne (May 26 & 27) - This festival was a huge success with 18,000 visitors over the two days. Entertainment included performances by traditional Ulster-Scots group Family Folk and Appalachian music performed by The Broken String Band. Lurgan’s Centenary Annual Show (June 2) - County Down based Family Folk entertained the crowds throughout the day and were joined by Kelly Forsythe School of Highland Dancing and a solo piper. Family Fun Day, Stormont Estate (June 4) - For the third year running the Agency worked in partnership with Foras na Gaeilge to provide a joint Ulster-Scots and Irish showcase of music and dance at the event. Ulster-Scots Day and summer programme of entertainment at Wallace Park (June 30-August 26) - The Ulster- Scots Agency showcased musical performances, a cookery demonstration, poetry reading and a Highland dance display. July Celebrations Concert (July 7) - The Agency supported the July Celebrations Concert at the Burnavon Arts & Cultural Centre in Cookstown. • Dalriada Festival, Glenarm (July 13 & 14) - Three Ulster-Scots groups performed during the two days, including ‘The Broken String Band’, ‘Ulster Folk’ and ‘Family Folk’. • Ulster Fleadh Dungiven (July 27 & 28) - This was the first time Ulster-Scots traditions have been included in the Ulster Fleadh and as a result of the success of the performances and the positive response received, it is hoped that Ulster-Scots entertainment will feature strongly in the 2013 event being held in Derry-Londonderry as part of the City of Culture celebrations. • Summer programme of Ulster-Scots entertainment at Cockle Row Cottages, Groomsport (July 29-September1) - The programme included piping displays, fiddle workshops and Ulster-Scot traditional music. Milwaukee Irish Fest (August 16-19) - The Agency promoted Ulster-Scots (or Scots-Irish as it is referred to in the US) culture by having a marketing stand in the festival’s ‘Cultural Area’. It also ran a series of historical talks on Belfast Shipbuilding and the Titanic by Gordon Lucy in the event’s Hedge School. Belfast Culture Night (September 21) - Entertainment was provided by ‘Family Folk’ and included traditional highland dance displays by Kelly Forsythe. Some showcase events from 2012
