Some commercial benefits of LED lighting
All businesses need to control costs, and with ever spiralling energy costs as well as the need to control carbon
emissions; it is becoming ever clearer that LED lighting systems offer many significant benefits over traditional HID
(High-Intensity Discharge lamps) or fluorescent lighting systems.
The most obvious benefits include
Reduce energy consumption
Extended LED life
Lower maintenance costs
Versatility and controllability
Adaptability
Rugged and durable
Flicker free
Instant light
Increased building and personal security
Some of the savings and benefits are pretty straight-forward – such as the reduction in power consumption – savings
anywhere around 80%+ are common when using low voltage DC power conversion, and the fact that the typical life-
span is around 10 years and above and that they are so robust reduces the cost of regular lamp replacement plus
the reduction in maintenance (constantly changing and checking bulbs).
Areas where the benefits are not so obvious can be just as interesting:
Minimised light pollution and better light quality can be great benefits – specific beams can be defined (directional
lighting) so that light shines where you need it to and the light quality can be tailored to suit the human eye. Reduce
the security risks in dimly lit stairwells, carparks, underpasses etc., and with light controls possible – you can control the
strength and duration of light as and when you need it – such as street lighting outside a theatre – fully on when
theatre goers are leaving but only say 50% lighting prior to this.
