Saving Energy

Over the last few years, you have been part of the Tata Power Club Enerji movement and have worked towards saving energy by saving electricity.

Thanks to your efforts, Tata Power Club Enerji has saved more than 3.4 million units of energy and sensitised more than 2 million people nationwide.

The 3.4 million units of energy saved is equivalent to the amount of energy used to light up 1,496 houses for a year and save 3,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The Energy Puzzle

But saving electricity is just one piece of the Energy PuzzleSo, what are the other pieces of this puzzle?

Solving the Energy Puzzle

Over the next year, Tata Power Club Enerji is going to work with you to solve the Energy Puzzle…one piece at a time!

www.clubenerji.com

Why is Energy Puzzle Important?

Every piece of the Energy Puzzle i.e.

• Save Power• Save Fuel • Save Water

• Reduce. Reuse. Recycle• Plant Trees

has a direct impact on the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere!

www.clubenerji.com

CO2 and Global Warming

CO2 is greenhouse gas that acts as a blanket surrounding the Earth.

This blanket prevents the Sun’s heat from escaping into space, keeping the Earth warm.

But when we release more greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, the Earth gets even hotter, leading to

Global Warming

Global Warming and You

How does Global Warming affect us?

All these are signs of Climate Change!

To prevent Climate Change and reduce Global Warming…We need to reduce the amount of CO2

released into the atmosphere

Unseasonal rains have ruined mango crop

Our cities are becoming hotter

Polar ice caps are melting

Floods and storms have become more common

Golden Rules of Saving Electricity

www.clubenerji.com

You already know how to save electricity…Can you tell us how?

How Can We Measure Electricity Use?

To measure electricity use we can use the Electricity Bill

www.clubenerji.com

If you use 10 electric bulbs of 60 watts each and they are used for 8 hours everyday.

Then your daily energy consumption for electric bulbs =

10 x 60 watts x 8 hours = 4800 watt-hours Your monthly energy consumption for electric bulbs =

4800 watt-hours x 30 days = 144000 watt-hours = 144 kilowatt-hours OR 144 units.

1 Unit : 1 kilowatt-hour

But There’s More to be Done!

So this year we will focus on Saving Fuelwhile continuing our efforts to Save Electricity

Why fuel?Did you know:

80% of the observed increase in atmospheric CO2 results from the burning of fossil fuels.

www.clubenerji.com

Fuel is any material that stores energy that we can extract to perform mechanical work

Fossil Fuels include coal, fuel oils like petrol and diesel and natural gas, which are extracted from the Earth

We use fuel primarily forTransportation and Cooking

What is Fuel?

www.clubenerji.com

How Can We Measure Fuel Use?

To measure fuel use we can use the Carbon Calculator

An Energy Champion will be one who- Pledges to save fuel and power i.e. who practices energy

conservation at home and at school- Spreads the message of energy conservation among

friends, neighbourhood and relatives - Records and shares the effective practices adopted and

results achieved within the immediate circle- Brings down the power and fuel usage in their homes

and demonstrates the same by tracking and recording electricity bills and the carbon calculator

- Introduces www.tatapowerenergyclub.com website at every point of contact
