5 MINUTE STRESS SOLUTION Collarbone Breathing Tapping Technique

Why use Collarbone Breathing? This exercise is a tapping technique designed to be used by individuals experiencing stress or generalised anxiety. Taking less than 5 minutes to complete, this sequence is most effective when tapped out first thing in the morning (in the shower or before rising); last thing at night or in bed and then during the day whenever you are experiencing:

● Stress● Having an “off” day● Feeling overwhelmed● Worry● Anxiety● Obsessive or niggling thoughts● Performance decline● Uncoordinated movements or ‘clumsiness’

Collarbone Breathing can be likened to a ‘reboot’. Rather like switching your own internal computer system on and off again, it can take your emotions and mind back to zero.

Regular practice can help you gain healthier emotional functioning and move forward with your day.

FINDING THE COLLARBONE POINTS

Collarbone Points

The collarbone spots are located one inch below the “U” shaped notch at the top of the breastone (where a man would knot his tie).

To find your collarbone points, trace a line with two fingers of your right hand, one inch down from the base of your throat. Move these fingers one inch to the right. This is your right side collarbone point.

Repeat with your left hand to find the left side point.

Just before tapping and throughout the sequence, try to tune in and remain as focused as possible on the most prominent feeling you want to address.

The Gamut PointThis is the point on the back of your hand where you will be tapping throughout the sequence. It is located between the little finger and ring finger knuckles on each hand, approximately one inch behind them.

See the diagram below to see the point you’ll be tapping.

FINDING THE GAMUT POINT

The Gamut Point

Page 5: Solution STRESS Minute The 5 - irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com Min... · Just before tapping and throughout the sequence, try to tune in and remain as focused as possible on the most

1.nPlace three fingers of your right hand on your right collarbone point, keeping your thumb away from the body and tap with two fingers of the right hand on the gamut point (see previous page) continuously.

Continuing to tap the gamut point, carry out the following sequence, remembering to focus on your emotions:

A. Take a deep breath in and hold it for 5 seconds.B. Let half of the breath out and hold it for 5 seconds.C. Let all of the breath out and hold for 5 seconds.D. Take half of a breath in and hold it for 5 seconds.E. Breathe out normally.

2. Now fold your hand into a fist with the thumb on the inside and place the knuckles onto the collarbone point and repeat the above breathing process as before, continuously tapping the gamut point whilst you do so.

Please note: When changing over to the ‘knuckles’ section of the sequence, ensure that only the knuckles themselves are touching the body. Any other part of the hand touching the body may prevent the technique from working properly.

3. Next, slide your fist over to the left collarbone point (with the thumb tucked in) and continue tapping the gamut point. Now repeat the breathing process as above.

4. Unfold your hand so that three fingers are on the collarbone point again with the thumb away from the body. Repeat the breathing process as before, continuously tapping the gamut point whilst you do so.

Tapping works on the premise that when we experience a negative emotion, this disturbs the body’s energy systems causing both a mental and physical discomfort, possibly even manifesting itself with physical symptoms (headaches, pain, nausea etc). When we address the imbalance caused by negative emotions, we can diminish the most figural feelings and then possibly even resolve further underlying issues.

Tapping can empower you to:

Feel calmer in minutes.Supercharge your self-esteem.Eliminate anxiety.Break down the effects of trauma.Free yourself from phobias and transform your thinking.

Significantly reduce and successfully calm stress reactivity, create a quieter mind and move forward with your life.
