The carbon sole for better torque.

and U23 World Champion, road cycling.

Efficiency. Finding the perfect interaction between man and machine is more important in cycling than in almost any other sport. Getting the ergonomics right is of top priority. The aim is to improve the transfer of power and avoid improper burdening of the entire locomotor system.

The transfer of power from foot to pedal is a central feature in cycling. This is where the SOLESTAR cycling shoe insole comes in. Its special operating principle stabilizes the foot, preventing the shear forces which typically occur when pedaling, and corrects the movement mechanism. In this way, the rider achieves maximum performance and trouble-free cycling.

The SOLESTAR principle.*During the push phase of the pedaling cycle, the tray-shaped shank and torsion support prevents the medial buckling of the foot. In this, the first metatarsophalangeal joint becomes deeperplaced by the SOLESTAR cycling insole, middle phalanxes no. III, IV and V are supported and pressure reduced. The effect is an even force distribution onto the entire middle foot axis. During the pull phase, the elevation of the lateral rim at the forefoot serves as a border and prevents the foot from losing grip.

A core made from carbon. The SOLESTAR cycling shoe insert is made from a special carbon material, which renders the insole extremely light and strong. In contrast to conventional forms of carbon, it has exceptionally good stiffening capabilities and is able to absorb the torsion forces created during push and pull phase without any problem. It slackens and then returns to its original shape. This makes it the ideal material for the SOLESTAR insole.

The pelotte is customized for each rider

and reduces pressure in the

area of the forefoot.

The carbon metatarsal support prevents the foot

from bending inwards and the leg from

rotating during the push phase.

The carbon coreis extremely thin and therefore takes up no more space than the original cycling shoe insert.

The outer material is non-slip, skid

resistant and has a cushioning effect. It also contains anti-

bacterial properties.

A heel clasp fixes the rear foot, enabling direct contact with the shoe sole.

Despite its extreme hardness and break-resistance, the material offers the required degree of flexibility.

The deeper positioning of the big toe joint and the raising of the forefoot‘s outer edge improve the transfer of power onto the pedal, preventing the foot from losing grip when the rider pedals from a standing position.

Christian Knees:

»Feels extremely good on

the foot! It sits firmly but is

still comfortable. The insole

is also unusually lightweight.

Highly recommended!«

«

Andreas Stauff:

»Since I use the SOLESTAR insole

my feet don‘t hurt anymore and

I can feel the additional pressure

on my pedals.«

Development. Oliver Elsenbach, graduate in Sports Science and cycling trainer, has been working in the field of orthopedic shoe inserts for profes-sional athletes since 2003. In the year 2008 he established the company KOM*SPORT in Cologne, Germany. His work focuses on position optimization and shoe inserts of professional cyclists. The concept of the SOLESTAR cycling shoe insert is the result of these years of development. This experience and numerous training and competition rides have created a product which combines three fundamental properties: increased performance, more comfort and a reduction of overburdening of the locomotive system.

The Athletes. The SOLESTAR insole is among others used by the following cyclists:

Gerald Ciolek2005 German champion in road cycling2006 U23 World champion

Christian Knees2009 19th place in the Tour de France2010 German champion in road cycling

Andreas Stauff 2009 Green jersey, Tour de l‘Avenir2010 First year as a professional, Quickstep Team
