START WITH GRATITUDE Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. —Henry Van Dyke

  • If you signed up for a St. Vincent de Paul Food Basket for

Thanksgiving, the Food Cupboard will be giving out these baskets on this Tuesday, November 24th from 1:00 - 2:00pm.

Please remember if you signed up for a basket that you must pick it up by 1:55pm or your reserved basket will be given to someone waiting without a reservation.

Next, Sunday, Nov 29th, right after Mass, we invite you to come enter into the story of St. Mark's gospel with eager expectation to see Jesus stepping off the pages right into our daily lives. Please feel free to come and go as needed. Please bring your own Bible, pen, notebook, etc., and especially bring your questions and insights on the stories of this shortest Gospel. Whether you attend in person or participate from home, here are some initial questions to help us dive into the first two chapters: With all the Christmas chaos starting up, how is God trying to get our attention in this season? According to St. Mark, immediately after Jesus’ baptism, the Holy Spirit leads him away from the people and into the wilderness - and even afterwards Jesus often seeks times of solitude - why? Jesus walks right into the everyday lives of ordinary people and calls them to focus on him more than any other priority - how do you feel about that kind of request?

As the Season of Advent draws near, the parish is happy to offer the following resources: - Advent Spiritual Resource for adults and youth -2021 Calendar - An opportunity for you to drop off any $10.00 Gift Cards for the Christmas Project.

***Today, November 22, 2020, these above items as well as dropping off of gift cards will be

available in the Vestibule of the Church between 11:00 - 12:00pm.***

Face coverings, hard sanitizer, and physical distancing Will be required before entry to the vestibule. Doors to

the vestibule will remain open to ensure adequate airflow.

♦ Please note: Daily Mass this week will only be on Tuesday, November 24th 11:30am.

No Wednesday morning Mass this week. ♦ There will be a Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday, November 26th at 10:30 a.m. in front of the office. ♦ The parish office and St. Angela’s Preschool will be CLOSED for Thanksgiving Break on: Wednesday, November 25th, Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th!

    Thanksgiving Week Schedule

Welcome to our new Scripture study!

  • November 22, 2020 Dear Friends in Christ, This week we celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday. For most of us, this is indeed the beginning of the Holiday season. Usually, this is a time filled with special activities, a renewed sense of giving, and a special time of joyful gatherings. As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, let us first stop to truly express to God our gratitude for our many blessings. We have been living through one of the most challenging periods in our national and global history. Our concern and precaution are daily realities as we are trying to keep safe from a life-threatening virus. Our hearts and prayers go out to those who have been directly affected by this pandemic. It will serve us well not to let down our guard, but to remain vigilant so as to continue to protect ourselves and those around us. Even though there are numerous challenges, we still have many blessings to count with grateful hearts. Most likely the holiday season will be different for us this year. We may be recommended to not have large family gatherings nor travel. At this point we do not know if or when our church building will be open or closed. As pastor I wonder what is on your minds as we approach this special time of year in a different way. Will precaution be more necessary than previously, rather than even coming to Mass for Christmas? Uncertainty seems to surround us. As your pastor, I am concerned for your overall wellbeing. The reality of all this may leave us feeling cheated and disappointed. While this may be true, I believe what we are also experiencing presents to us an opportunity to refocus our priorities during this holiday season. If family gatherings are smaller, we can focus more on each other. If we hesitate to shop for gifts, we can make them at home instead. Consider creating an element of surprise, maybe leaving a gift on someone’s front porch. Perhaps money we might save from travel, we can donate to someone in need. However small or simple the holiday season may be for us this year, Christ’s light and peace can still be born once again in our hearts. Our gratitude for simple things, being more attentive to people we may take for granted, and better acknowledgment of the presence of God’s love in our lives might be a renewed way of celebrating this special time of year. If you read through the Scriptures, many of those who were open to God’s call didn’t live lives free from challenges nor hardships. But they had the faith to trust that God would see them through and continued to hope in the promise of the Messiah. Christ confirms all this with his birth, life, death and resurrection. May the next few weeks also be a special time to give to God the yearnings of our hearts. Let us lift up our prayers for a world free from the COVID-19 virus, and free from all that troubles our hearts. Let us present to God our desire to see the Light of Christ shining in dark times. Let us trust that through this all, God will reveal to us Christ in a new way. Come Lord Jesus! Blessings for Thanksgiving and Advent, Fr. Peter

  • We, the staff here at St. Angela Merici, wish each one of you and your families a very special and happy Thanksgiving! Many Blessings! Fr. Peter, Fr. Miguel, Deacon Dave, Deacon Adam, Jeannette, Jordan, Lana, Betsy, Tommy, Lorie, Tony, and Sal

This weekend, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. In the

U.S., one in six people live in poverty. With this collection, you support programs that address the

causes of poverty and provide a sustainable future for those struggling across the country. In addition, 25% of the funds we collect will remain in our diocese to fund local antipoverty projects. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this collection and work on the margins. More information about the

Catholic Campaign for Human Development can be found at www.usccb.orgccbd/collection.

As you know each year we join other institutions on the Central Coast to participate in a Christmas Project by providing Christmas Gifts for families in need. This year, to keep everyone safe, all gifts this year will be given via mailed gift cards. St. Angela Merici Parish is excited to once again be part of this undertaking, but we do need your help! Our parish has received over three hundred tags like the ones you see above. On each tag the recipient has requested one of the following: a $10.00 gift card to Target or a $10.00 gift card to Safeway. Any extra gift cards will also be distributed. HERE IS HOW YOU CAN STILL PARTICIPATE

To help us help others, you can submit the Target or Safeway Gift Cards in $10.00 increments by Sunday, November 29, 2020! Purchased gift cards may be dropped off in the Sunday Mass collection

basket, mailed to the parish office, or slipped through the office mail slot. This will give us time to take care of the sorting and get them in the mail!

Join us this year in helping others. If you have questions, please email Jordan: [email protected]
