ANOINTING MASS

TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2018

6:00 PM—IN CHURCH

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at 6:00 PM in

Church, the Priests of St. Timothy will celebrate

an Anointing Mass. Please join with your

fellow parishioners to receive this most blessed

sacrament that “brings the compassionate

presence of Christ into the midst of the

sufferings of those who are ill.”

The Anointing of the Sick “is not a sacrament for those only

who are at the point of death. Hence as soon as anyone of the

faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old

age, the fitting time to receive this sacrament has certainly

already arrived.” —CCC, no. 1514, citing SC, no. 73

The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that “the

Anointing of the Sick is a liturgical and communal celebration,

whether it takes place in a family home, a hospital or church, for

a single sick person or a whole group of sick persons” (CCC,

no. 1517).

-excerpts from the Catechism of the Catholic Church for Adults

God’s Rosebud

A new minister was walking with

an older, more seasoned minister

in the garden one day. Feeling a

bit insecure about what God had

for him to do, he was asking the older

preacher for some advice.

The older preacher walked up to a

rosebush and handed the young preacher a rosebud and told

him to open it without tearing off any petals.

The young preacher looked in disbelief at the older preacher and

was trying to figure out what a rosebud could possibly have to do

with his wanting to know the will of God for his life and ministry.

But, because of his great respect for the older preacher, he

proceeded to try to unfold the rose, while keeping every petal

intact. It wasn’t long before he realized how impossible this was

to do.

Noticing the younger preacher’s inability to unfold the rosebud

without tearing it, the older preacher began to recite the following

poem:

“It is only a tiny rosebud,

A flower of God’s design;

But I cannot unfold the petals

With these clumsy hands of mine.”

“The secret of unfolding flowers

Is not known to such as I.

GOD opens this flower so easily,

But in my hands they die.”

“If I cannot unfold a rosebud,

This flower of God’s design,

Then how can I have the wisdom

To unfold this life of mine?”

“So I’ll trust in God for leading

Each moment of my day.

I will look to God for guidance

In each step of the way.”

“The path that lies before me,

Only my Lord knows,.

I’ll trust God to unfold the moments,

Just as He unfolds the rose.”

H. O. M. E.

Dear Parishioners and friends of St. Timothy Parish,

It is my sincere hope and prayer that this message, this request,

this opportunity go out not only to the parishioners but to anyone

in The Villages and surrounding communities that sponsor

various charities. I am begging on behalf of H.O.M.E. (Hands of

Mercy Everywhere) that we can rally support for this very

important ministry.

Help us create support for a local home for young unwed

mothers and their babies!

Maybe you've heard of this home before, it's called Hands of

Mercy Everywhere. The acronym is H.O.M.E. and it's located in

Belleview.

St. Timothy has provided some support for H.O.M.E. in the past.

We put roofs on their facilities, and Respect Life raises money in

the form of gift cards for them at Christmas time. There is a

plaque on the wall in the front narthex of the Hall showing

pictures of H.O.M.E. and some of the residents.

What we are looking to do now is to gather a group of ministries

at St Timothy and elsewhere in the Villages and surrounding

areas so they can come together to raise funds for H.O.M.E.

We have arranged for the Founder & CEO of H.O.M.E., Diane

Schofield, to come to St. Timothy and give an overview of the

facility and programs to all who are interested in helping raise

money.

We are asking the ministry members to come to the meeting

equipped with ideas on how their ministry or group(s) that they

belong to could help raise funds for H.O.M.E.

There's no limit on the number of people who can attend, as this

will be a first-hand opportunity to learn about H.O.M.E. and

coordinate on fundraising ideas.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 1:00

PM in the Parish Hall.

Are you willing to lead this effort for your ministry/group? Is this

something you think you could help with? Your task would be to

coordinate with your ministry and/or group members to generate

fundraising ideas and see how many of your members can

attend the June meeting.

Please approach all charitable organizations that you are a

part of to consider supporting this most worthy ministry.

For more information please contact Naomi Charboneau at

954-829-7592 and let her know how many will attend.

GOD'S CALL TO HOLINESS

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and

official teachings of the Roman Catholic

Church

CHOSEN BY THE LORD

The Lord has chosen each one of us "to be holy and blameless

before Him in love"

(Eph 1:4). (2)

CONSTANT ADVANCE

The Letter to the Hebrews ... invites

us to realize that "a great cloud of

witnesses" (12:1) impels us to

advance constantly towards the goal.

These witnesses may include our

own mothers, grandmothers or other

loved ones (cf. 2 Tim 1:5). Their lives

may not always have been perfect,

yet even amid their faults and failings they kept moving forward

and proved pleasing to the Lord. (3)

LIVES OF LOVE

We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by

bearing witness in everything we do, wherever we find

ourselves. (14)

A PATH OF HOLINESS

Let the grace of your baptism bear fruit in a path of holiness. Let

everything be open to God; turn to Him in every situation. Do not

be dismayed, for the power of the Holy Spirit enables you to do

this ... In the Church, holy but made up of sinners, you will find

everything you need to grow towards holiness. The Lord has

bestowed on the Church the gifts of scripture, the sacraments,

holy places, living communities, the witness of the saints and a

multifaceted beauty that proceeds from God's love ... (15)

YOUR MISSION

A Christian cannot think of his or her mission on earth without

seeing it as a path of holiness, for "this is the will of God, your

sanctification" (1 Thess 4:3). Each saint is a mission, planned by

the Father to reflect and embody, at a specific moment in

history, a certain aspect of the Gospel. (19)

JESUS IS THE KEY

That mission has its fullest meaning in Christ, and can only be

understood through Him. At its core, holiness is experiencing, in

union with Christ, the mysteries of His life. (20)

ASK THE SPIRIT

Always ask the Spirit what Jesus expects from you at every

moment of your life and in every decision you must make, so as

to discern its place in the mission you have received. Allow the

Spirit to forge in you the personal mystery that can reflect Jesus

Christ in today's world. (23)

DON'T BE AFRAID

Do not be afraid of holiness. It will take away none of your ener-

gy, vitality or joy. On the contrary, you will become what the Fa-

ther had in mind when He created you, and you will be faithful to

your deepest self. To depend on God sets us free from every

form of enslavement and leads us to recognize our great dignity.

(32)

AIM HIGH

Do not be afraid to set your sights higher, to allow yourself to be

loved and liberated by God. Do not be afraid to let yourself be

guided by the Holy Spirit. Holiness does not make you less hu-

man, since it is an encounter between your weakness and the

power of God's grace. For in the words of Leon Bloy, when all is

said and done, "the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a

saint." (34)
