1 Solar panels should be installed facing South direction
2 Tilt angle of solar panel = Latitude of the installation location. See map in appendix for checking the latitude
3 Solar panels must be grouted using anchor bolts or concrete foundation to ensure durability in rough conditions

as possible to minimize DC transmission losses.

Ensure that the maximum permissible voltage is not exceeded when connecting the panels in series

There should be a minimum gap of 5 mm between two solar panels to allow for any expansion in materials.
7 The solar panels being interconnected must be of the same type (mono or
poly) and same power class.
8 There should be no shade or shadow on the solar panels as this may lead to losses, formation of hotspots etc.

Divide the daily energy consumption (Watt Hours) by 3 to get approximate panel
size in Watts.

In the above example we are getting Sum Total of Loads = 490 wattsTherefore UPS VA rating = 490 x 1.67 = 818 VATherefore take 850 VA UPS which is close to the above calculated no.Note: NXG 850 VA solar UPS supports Battery Voltage of 12 V and 30 ampere Current Rating.
As the selected UPS supports 1 no. of 12 V battery, hence use one 12V battery with this UPS.Battery Ah = (Total daily Watt-Hours*1.9)/(12*no. of batteries) = (980*1.9)/12*1 = 155 AhHence choose a 150 Ah solar battery.

Based on the area available for solar installation,
calculate the capacity of solar panels. Note the Voltage specification
of the chosen solar modules .

Thumb Rule: 1000 Watts solar panels require minimum 100 sq. ft. of clear rooftop area towards truesouth.
If area available for installation is 110 sq. ft., it can be used to install about 1000 Watts of solar panelallowing for some tolerance.Solar Panel Size = 1000 WattsSolar Panel Configuration: We can install 5 x 200 Wp Or 4 x 250 Wp solar panels.
Note that the 200Wp/ 250 Wp panels are 24V devices.
Daily Watt-Hours generated by solar = Panel Capacity (W) x 3= 1000 x 3 =3000 WHAs we have selected 24 V panels, we shall install 2 nos. 12 V batteries in series to make 24 V system.Assuming we only need to save 50% of generated energy in batteries for night, Battery Ah =
(Total daily Watt-Hour*1.9*storage requirement)/(12*no. of batteries) = 3000*1.9*50%/(12*2) = 125Ah
Hence install 2 nos. 120 Ah batteries in this system
