History

1999 Discussion on ISCC technology,  World Bank to sponsor four ISCC projects (Egypt, Morocco, India and Mexico) by grant of 50 Million USD each.

2001 FichtnerSolar awarded the Planning and Engineering (Technical Design Report, Specifications)

2004  Planning modified and decided tender in two lots (Solar Island and Combined Cycle Island). 

2007 Bidding, Negotiations and Contract Awards: • Orascom with Flagsol for Solar Island• Iberdrola with Mitsui for Combined Cycle Island• FichtnerSolar for Project Construction Management

• Solar Collectors– 160  SKAL‐ET 150 based parabolic trough collectors, reinforced 

or regular depending on position in solar field. 

• HTF System– 40 loops, thereof each 9 West and East of the Power Block and 

22 in the South

– 3x50% HTF main pumps, 2x50% freeze protection pumps

• HTF Area Concrete Building– HTF System Control Equipment, Electrical Systems Solar Island

• Workshop and Warehouse

– General Electric Type MS 6111 FA , 74 MW at 20°C ambient temperature 

• Steam Turbine– Siemens SST 900, 60 MW at 50 MJ/s Solar Heat Input, 36 MW 

without Solar Heat Input

• Heat Recovery Steam Generator and Solar Heat Exchangers– Steam generated by Solar Heat Exchangers (Pre‐heater + 

Evaporator) and fed into high pressure steam drum

• Cooling Towers

– Evaporative cooling with make‐up water from Nile
