GERMAN ENERGY AGENCY (DENA)The dena RES Project Honduras is part of the worldwide dena Renewable Energy Solutions Programme coordinated by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) - the German Energy Agency - and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) within the German Energy Solutions Initiative.

BOS BALANCE OF STORAGE SYSTEMS AGBOS is a German manufacturer of energy storage systems - expert in bankable off-grid solutions and technology partner for innovative hybrid batteries. The company was founded in 2014 and is located in the city of Neu-Ulm. BOS is working in various countries all over the world.

INNOVATIVE BUSINESS SOLUTIONS (IBS)IBS is a company that promotes the development of energy efficiency projects, renewable energy and eco-friendly solutions for water treatment through consultancies and the implementation of solutions that generate benefits for their clients and help to protect the environment.

AYUDA EN ACCIÓN Ayuda en Acción is a Spanish NGDO with a 25-year presence in Honduras accompanying sustainable development processes in coherence with the 2030 agenda. One of its priorities is mitigation and adaptation to climate change, which boosts the use of renewable energies through inclusive processes in coordination with guarantors of law, private companies and other actors.

and as a part of the dena Renewable Energy Solutions Programme, we have chosen five pilot locations in the

country to demonstrate our technology. Three hotels and two muni-cipalities run now with a BOS solar storage system. The results: Lower electricity bills, uninterrupted power supply and cleaner air.

Reliable power, functioning energy infrastructure and in-dependence from diesel generators. This is what many Hondurans want and need to keep their businesses, institu-tions, and homes running. With our solar storage systems, we provide a solution that meets their needs. Together with our local partner Innovative Business Solutions (IBS)

HOW OUR SYSTEM WORKS

All locations have a solar system with photovoltaic panels and a lithium storage system installed. This ensures ener-gy supply at night and by unfavourable weather conditions. Already existing energy sources like the power grid or diesel genset will be used as optional backup. Local experts have been trained to install and maintain the systems.

THREE HOTELS ON THE BAY ISLANDS ROATÁN AND GUANAJA

POWERING PRIORITY LOADS IN GRID-TIED LOCATIONSThe Beach House is a boutique hotel on the island of Roatán, loca-ted in the beautiful Halfmoon Bay at West End. The owners Karyn and Chuck have decided to install a BOS solar storage system in order to cover priority loads during frequent power cuts. This way, they don't have to rely on their diesel generator to ensure the basic energy needs for the hotel.

SHORTENING GENERATOR TIME IN REMOTE PLACESThe End of the World Resort is located on one of the most remote beaches on the far out island of Guanaja. Getting there takes time and powering the generator 24/7 meant a lot of ressources to owner Brian Rowland. Solar power now allows him to shorten the necessary time of generator use. He is already saving up for his second system.

UPGRADING EXISTING SOLAR SYSTEMSThe remote Mango Creek Lodge on Roatán runs on generator power and renewable energies. The lodge already had a solar system, but needed more storage capacity. We thus upgraded their existing sys-tem and installed an HS business 10. Their former lead-acid system remains in use, as well.

PAY AS YOU SAVE: LOWERING THE ELECTRICITY BILLThe municipality of Santa Fé de Colón has various air conditioners and a very high electricity bill. With the support of the NGO Ayuda en Acción, they can now afford a solar system. Instead of paying it upfront, they pay it off with part of the savings they generate using less grid power. This means reliable power and savings right from the start.

PAY AS YOU SAVE: ENABLING THE USE OF ADDITIONAL LOADSThe municipality of Juan Francisco Bulnes in the department of Gra-cias a Dios couldn’t use its air conditioners, because their genera-tor capacity was too low. Adding an HS business 10 allows them to work in cooler air and offer special services on the weekends. They thus not only save money but generate additional income to pay off their system bit by bit.
