SOL Testing• The state of Virginia sets rigorous academic
standards, known as the Standards of Learning (SOL), and measures achievement through annual SOL tests. The system provides schools, school divisions and the Virginia Department of Education with critical data to inform the development and implementation of effective instructional strategies and best practices.
• SOL assessments measure student achievement in English, mathematics, science and history/social science.

• 3rd Grade- Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science (covers curriculum from K-3)
• 4th Grade- Reading, Math and VA History
• 5th Grade- Reading, Writing, Math and Science (the science test covers 4th and 5th grade objectives)

• Scan the entire test.• Double check my
work and the answer sheet to make sure my answers match the test questions.

Tips for Parents
• Assist with homework and reading assignments.
• Avoid cramming information the night before the test.
• Keep cool.
• Encourage your child to do well.

• Be sure to get enough sleep.
• Encourage your child to eat breakfast.
• Be sure that your child is on time.
• Praise and reward your child when they do well.
