Welcome to the Autumn Speak Out News!

It has been a Summer of success and a big thank you to everyone for helping us. We would especially like to thank our Brentford Arts and Crafts group at Brentford Market; all the CCP volunteers at Barclays Community Day; and our volunteers including all the Challenge Network students at the Brentford Festival where we raised £181 and 18p!

Congratulations for the moving performance by the Voice of Us at LB Hounslow's Adult Safeguarding events. Congratulations also to Lisa Maher Middleton for getting her level 3 in Child Care Learning and Development. Well done to all the members who attended the Weigh2Lose course and lost weight.

We are looking forward to Autumn with our new Arts & Crafts Course and a new Chit Chat group both starting at the London Museum of Water and Steam. Tracy is also back to help with our Exercise Group.

Don't forget to buy tickets for the Halloween disco at St Paul's Church Hall and this year’s Speak Out Christmas Meal.

It may still be early as we write this inOctober but... Seasons Greetings!

CCP Project News NewsDay Services discussed at the Learning Disability & Autism Partnership Board

Susan Carini co-chaired the Partnership Board meeting in July with James Hearn from Hounslow Council. The theme this time was Day Services.

Campaigns, Consultations and Partnerships (CCP) members and staff have been talking to people at different groups to find out what they think. People say they want more things to do & are worried about the changes.

The Council said they will take on a project worker to work on this and so we hope we can work closely with them to make sure that members have their say in the changes.

CCP recently had a stall at Barclays Bank Community Event. We gave out leaflets and talked to members of the public about Speak Out. It was a chance for members to catch up with the new Mayor, Councillor Corinna Smart and Mary MacLeod MP and to present them with some of our own made flowers!

CCP members listened to presentations from the Bank to help increase their confidence in using banks.

CCP Summer picnic

CCP members recently had a picnic at Kew Gardens. If you’d like to get involved with campaigning or have something you’d like us to help with, we’d love to hear from you.

Voice of Us Drama

We have been working with a dance coach from Tas-mania dance and fitness, which is based in Brentford. We’ve learned a routine and practiced free-styling. We hope to use our new dance skills in future plays.

Voice of Us perform for Safeguarding Adults event

On the 9th and 12th September The Voice of Us performed at Hounslow Civic Centre at Hounslow Council’s Safeguarding Adults events. The play, called “Your Voice. Your Right” was written for the group by Paul Luke and showed different examples of care and support as well as looking at abuse. Themes were the importance of listening and that it can be necessary to speak up for others.

After the play, the Mayor of Hounslow gave every member of the group a gift and card to say Thank You.

Speak Out is good for you!

Ramandeep Mann feels her flexibility has improved a lot, partly because of being active with The Voice of Us drama group and in other Speak Out activities. She can now bend both her legs which she was not able to do before!
